TPH Spectra® ST Universal Composite Restorative

Dentsply Sirona’s next generation of resin composite, featuring SphereTEC™ filler technology

•Optimized handling for easy placement and shaping

•Enhanced chameleon blending ability for simplified shade selection and matching

•Improved durability with high polish and stain resistance for lasting esthetics

Given the large number of direct restorations placed by dental healthcare providers, selecting the right uni-versal composite can be a daunting task. For the clinician, judging the clinical performance of a composite must certainly involve assessing the physical properties, such as flexural strength and wear potential, but it also involves evaluating the material’s attributes affecting placement, including handling, desired viscosity, and stickiness—all of which can affect efficiency. Recently, Dentsply Sirona introduced TPH Spectra® ST Universal Composite Restorative, which provides added benefits for clinicians and patients, such as better handling, enhanced chameleon blending effects, and improved wear and polishability for lasting durability.

The key improvements in TPH Spectra ST composite are made possible by SphereTEC™ filler technology, Dentsply Sirona’s proprietary method of manufacturing microscaled, well-defined spherical microstructures, comprised of submicron glass. The innovative SphereTEC fillers are composed of spherical, prepolymerized particles with a mean size of 15 μm that are obtained via a spray-granulation process. The spherical form leads to a ball-bearing-like effect, which results in both high slump resistance and improved sculptability and adaptation to carious lesions. Via a capillary effect, the microstructure of the SphereTEC fillers can bind more free resin than traditional fillers. This creates a lack of free resin at the material surface, which gives the TPH Spectra ST a matte finish during placement and virtually eliminates its propensity to stick to hand instruments.

TPH Spectra ST is indicated for both anterior and posterior restorations. As with its well-established predecessor, TPH Spectra®, two different viscosities (ie, LV-low viscosity and HV-high viscosity) are available. The low viscosity version contains a slightly lower filler load to reduce the viscosity without affecting its other physical properties.

To help achieve a shade match that can make restorations indistinguishable from the surrounding tooth structure, TPH Spectra ST features improved chameleon blending effects. And because fewer shades are needed, money and shelf space can be saved with reduced inventory. To accomplish this, TPH Spectra ST is offered in five CLOUD shades that match the full VITA® shade guide range. The concept of CLOUD shading involves grouping similar shades together (eg, A1, B1, C1) and designing a single resin composite with a matched refractive index that can blend with and mimic surrounding color. For example, teeth in VITA shades A1, B1, and C1 can all be efficiently restored with a single shade of TPH Spectra ST A1. Lastly, TPH Spectra ST provides easier and faster finishing and polishing when using the Enhance® Finishing and Enhance® PoGo® Polishing systems.
