VisCalor: Highly Filled Thermo-viscous Universal Composite

Posted on Wednesday, June 9, 2021

After the successful launch of VisCalor bulk, VOCO introduces its second thermo-viscous composite in VisCalor. This universal esthetic composite brings the same innovative 2-in-1 technology with more shade options and indications while keeping it as simple as Warm it, Flow it, Sculpt it! Once warmed, VisCalor delivers the viscosity of a flowable, then rapidly cools to body temperature once placed—which allows for the immediate sculptability of a packable. A controlled, softer consistency enables superior sculptability for the clinician to showcase their artistic abilities, re-creating nature using the instrument or brush technique.

VisCalor is indicated for all classes. A high filler rate of 83% ensures high strength, low shrinkage of only 1.4% and a low wear rate, making it a very durable restoration. VisCalor saves time by eliminating procedural steps and the need for additional materials used as a restorative base, liner or occlusal capping layer, effectively making VisCalor two restoratives in one.

Its unique formulation is based on an entirely new monomer system and the special silane coating of its glass fillers. This combined modification results in a unique material that allows the viscosity to drop to that of a flowable.

VisCalor’s Easy-Access-Capsule has a long and narrow tip that provides greater access to difficult-to-reach areas, allowing a bubble-free application and minimizing the potential for incipient decay and long-term failures. VOCO’s tried and true nano-hybrid technology ensures excellent esthetics in 11 shades. It is easy to polish to a high gloss shine and has a prolonged shade stability.

VOCO’s VisCalor is an efficient, esthetic, 2-in-1 restorative that eliminates the need for a separate flowable, optimizing workflow and improving efficiency of the restorative procedure. It’s truly as simple as Warm it, Flow it, Sculpt it!

Overjet Acquires Dental Claims Review Company American Dental Examiners to Offer Fully Licensed Clinical Review on Its Artificial Intelligence Platform

Posted on Tuesday, June 8, 2021

Amid growing demand from dental payers for its powerful dental artificial intelligence (AI) software, venture-backed dental AI company Overjet (www.overjet.ai) today announced it had acquired American Dental Examiners (www.americandentalexaminers.com). The union brings together Overjet’s industry-leading dental AI technology with a storied dental claims review firm that built and defined the claim review category over the last four decades. With today’s acquisition, Overjet will be the first company in the dental industry to offer under one roof a fully integrated solution for dental payers that combines AI and a licensed, nationwide network of dental claims reviewers.

The ADE acquisition brings to Overjet the ability to provide nationwide, fully licensed utilization review, a broad network of dentists to support claims review, and a leadership team with decades of dental claims review and benefits consulting experience. Founded in 1980, American Dental Examiners pioneered third-party dental claims review and along the way has served some of the country’s largest payers.

“The uptake of Overjet’s dental AI by payers has been swift and surpassed our expectations,” said Dr. Wardah Inam, CEO and co-founder of Overjet. “As we built these relationships, multiple customers approached us about offering an even broader set of services powered by AI to support the full lifecycle of claim processing. Our partners are rethinking processes, platforms, and technology to speed review and improve consistency for their provider networks and members.”

For payers, the ADE acquisition bolsters Overjet’s suite of offerings to now include nationwide, fully licensed dental claims decisioning in addition to Overjet’s industry-leading dental AI tools for claim review selection and payment integrity. Dental payers can now rely on Overjet to supplement internal clinical staff in order to boost the volume of claims reviewed, handle seasonal variations, and ensure compliance with state utilization review laws. Overjet already has several payers working to integrate licensed clinical review, supported by AI, into their operations. ADE’s existing clients will benefit from Overjet’s deep technology capabilities and ability to leverage dental AI seamlessly with existing claims review services.

“Through multiple claims review tests, we found that dentists using Overjet’s platform and AI technology could work substantially faster and more accurately than many other systems out there,” said Dr. Robert Faiella, DDS, chief dental officer of Overjet. “With this insight, we realized that Full Clinical Review as a Service made sense as an offering and could help lower costs, boost quality, and simplify operations for payers.”

“When I first saw Overjet’s technology, I knew this was the future of dental claims review,” said Dr. Robert Leaf, founder of American Dental Examiner and 40-year veteran of the dental claims review industry. “Bringing ADE and Overjet together just made sense. It’s top-notch clinical reviewers using best-in-class artificial intelligence. This will redefine the industry.”

Today’s acquisition follows a year of rapid growth for Overjet since the company came out of stealth in 2020 with the launch of powerful dental AI software and financing from VCs that included Crosslink Capital and the MIT-affiliated E14 Fund. Built upon multiple cutting-edge computational dentistry and AI techniques pioneered and patented by Overjet over two years of extensive R&D, Overjet's clinical and claim intelligence platforms are already being used by some of the largest dental customers in the nation. In a dental AI first, Overjet announced in May 2021 FDA clearance for its Dental Assist product designed for dentists and hygienists at dental clinics. The firm was also named to CB Insights’ 2021 AI 100 list, recognizing AI companies that are redefining categories globally.

Founded by PhDs and leading experts from MIT and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Overjet has assembled the largest and most seasoned team of technologists and domain experts with deep AI, dental, and insurance experience. Overjet's leadership team includes Dr. Wardah Inam, PhD, CEO and cofounder; Dr. Robert Faiella, DDS, chief dental officer and former president of the American Dental Association; Deepak Ramaswamy, PhD, CTO and former Amazon executive; Dr. Chris Balaban, DMD, clinical director; and Shaju Puthussery, COO and former chief analytics officer at DentaQuest, the largest Medicaid dental benefits provider.

Neoss Announces NeossONE–One Platform, Smart Prosthetics

Posted on Tuesday, June 8, 2021

ONE Prosthetic Platform, ONE Impression Coping, ONE Kit!

One prosthetic platform, across three implant ranges, means one impression coping, one implant replica and one abutment interface, facilitating treatments that are adaptable and versatile. With fewer components in the system, complexity is reduced and time-efficiency is improved. All of which results in a truly cost-effective solution and predicable outcome.

Why Choose the NeossONE™ Platform?

In a market where simplicity is commonly claimed, Neoss® has redefined its meaning. In contrast to traditional implant systems necessitating up to a thousand components, Neoss® uses a minimum number of components to achieve the highest level of flexibility and functionality, without compromise. Utilizing NeossONE™, with its proven long-term clinical performance, enables integration of innovations in surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation, providing unique benefits for the whole dental team.

What does NeossONE™ Provide for the Dental Team?

For clinicians, it means predictable esthetics, soft tissue integration and prosthetic precision. The ingenuity lies not only in the NeossONE™ solution, but in the patented Neoss® implant design that optimizes stability in all bone qualities and conditions and eliminates the need for separate oneor two-stage designs. The benefits of both are clear: a predictable solution with shorter chair time2 and optimized inventory control.

“Neoss provides versatility through innovation. Their implant selection gives plenty of options that Satisfies (straight, aggressive, tapered) the surgeon's needs. The prosthetics are quite excellent with both conventional and angled-screw options. This is all on one platform making things simple." Dr Paul S. Rosen, DMD, MS, FACD

For dental technicians, the NeossONE™ solution offers an intelligent and simple solution with less inventory of components, digital workflows supporting local production or central production for patient-specific solutions. This requires less effort and time to implement, gives maximum flexibility and strengthens relationships with the clinician’s team.

"I am probably one of the first customers of Neoss in the US (2006). I saw the ingenuity and technical advantages from the start, one prosthetic platform reduces inventory, eases communication and saves time." Steven Pigliacelli, CDT, MDT, Marotta Dental Studio Inc.

The benefits are clear: reducing patient treatment time, optimizing inventory control and patient outcomes.

360-Degree Service for Your Digital Infrastructure

Posted on Monday, June 7, 2021

Digitization has fundamentally changed dental technology in the last 10 years. The digital fabrication of dentures has become the standard in dental laboratories. In his exciting presentation recorded at the AG.Live CON at the end of April, Christian Ermer, CMO at Amann Girrbach and responsible for the company's digital transformation, explains how the newly developed AG.Live platform from Amann Girrbach is now taking digital dental technology to a new level and enabling seamlessly integrated and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Maximum clarity, more efficient processes, and greater customer proximity

The world is digital—more than ever due to COVID-19. Communication is digital, people shop digitally, life itself is becoming more and more digital. And this development does not stop at dental technology. Quite the contrary. Digitally fabricated dentures are already the rule in dental laboratories. Despite its many advantages, digitization has however also led to increased complexity. The AG.Live platform makes it possible to monitor the digital workflow from anywhere in the world and, in the future, to manage it as well. For Ceramill users, AG.Live is the future point of contact for perfectly managing your digital infrastructure in the laboratory (equipment, software, updates, service, maintenance, and training). The digital connection of clinicians via AG.Live creates a unique network for the digital denture process. The vision behind this product development by Amann Girrbach and the opportunities it opens up for dental technicians and clinicians alike are described impressively by Christian Ermer.

Polaroid DDS Imaging Software- No Boundaries

Posted on Friday, June 4, 2021

Polaroid HealthCare has just introduced an amazing new Windows based imaging program, Polaroid DDS. The new DDS Imaging program claims to have No Limits, and No Fees. The open architecture design has direct integration (not twains), with most of today’s top IO X-ray sensors, PSP scanners, Intraoral Cameras, Caries Detectors, Digital SLR Cameras, & 2D Pan/Cephs. Imagine having just one software program to learn and use for all your current, and future imaging needs. DDS was created as a free standing, open source imaging software, not one designed to make a particular piece of hardware perform.

Polaroid DDS uses the latest in dental and medical imaging algorithms combined to produce incredible images, often better than some hardware brands own software. Our specialized filters allow the practitioner to see like never before. Select the perfect filter, or assign your favorite to all your images. Just one click and 6 variations of an image can be displayed side-by-side, each with a different filter applied. Now you can instantly choose which filter(s) provides the best detail, sharpness, or contrast, whether it be for General, Perio, or Endo procedures. Get the most from that radiograph to assist you in making accurate diagnoses. Saves time, less retakes, and helps you create a better treatment plan.

No limits - you can continue to use your existing hardware devices in Polaroid DDS, and when it’s time to replace them, have the freedom to choose any replacement brand product you like. You’re no longer locked into high-priced proprietary hardware and support fees.

Direct Integration- not limited bridges, with many of the more popular practice management programs. Often providing two way communications when available. Polaroid DDS has easy data converters for many of today’s top Imaging programs to accurately convert your existing patient images into Polaroid DDS, saving you hundreds of hours trying to export them yourself. Call your dealer to see if you’re current imaging software brand and release version is included.

No Fees- DDS has no monthly or yearly fees and comes with Free Lifetime installation, training, & support. DDS is available in over 25 languages. For additional details, contact your authorized Polaroid HealthCare dealer, or call 844-789-5050 www.polaroidhealth.com info@polaroidhealth.com

Dentsply Sirona acquired the assets of Propel Orthodontics, a leading innovator in orthodontic devices

Posted on Friday, June 4, 2021

The acquisition of the assets of Propel Orthodontics will open up significant opportunities for Dentsply Sirona to drive innovation in the field of clear aligner and orthodontic treatment. The at-home High Frequency Vibration (HFV) product line consists of the VPro5®, VPro+™, and VPro™ and supports both active treatment and retention at just 5 minutes per day. When used as part of an orthodontic treatment plan, this easy-to-use device featuring patented high frequency vibrational technology can increase patient comfort and may reduce overall treatment time significantly. Dentsply Sirona will also work on launching new branding as part of the SureSmile portfolio for the professional market after the integration of the assets of Propel Orthodontics and will continue to sell VPro directly to dental professionals.

Patients will benefit from the acquisition as they will have the opportunity to use the VPro product line with more offerings in the future. This contributes to the two companies' goals of providing more patients with access to simple and comfortable oral care.

Helping Free Dental Clinics Affected by COVID-19

Posted on Friday, June 4, 2021

During the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Americans lost their health coverage including dental care. With nowhere else to turn, more people have been seeking free and low-cost dental clinics for dental care. These clinics serve as a safety net for our most vulnerable populations, and have been struggling to meet the growing demand with their limited resources.

To help free clinics combat the shortage of funds and supplies, the Dr Kevin M Kenny Foundation and ASDA District 11 led a fundraiser by organizing ten free CE courses for dental professionals. Topics were chosen to prepare dental professionals for a successful career in dentistry and practice ownership. In total, they raised $8,000 from corporate sponsors. All the donations raised were donated to two free clinics in California: Homeless Not Toothless and UCSD Student-Run Free Dental Clinics.

“Oral health is fundamental for personal well-being. I’m glad we were able to rally up the dental community during a time of crisis to help those who struggle to access dental care.” – Vivian Lee, ASDA District 11 Service Chair

If you would like more information on this topic, please contact Vivian Lee at vivianslee@g.ucla.edu.

Dr Kevin M Kenny Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides continuing education courses to dentists. All the funds that the organization raises goes towards providing medical and dental care to underserved populations and supporting humanitarian mission trips. In the past four years, the nonprofit has donated more than $135,000.
