The Pillar Scholarship is designed to allow qualified dental technicians the opportunity to sit for the three examinations that comprise the Certified Dental Technician (CDT) examination process. Scholarship recipients will have their application and testing fees covered for them to take the written comprehensive examination, the written specialty examination, and the hands-on practical examination, one time each. The scholarship amount awarded varies upon the individual’s current certification process, but could potentially reach up to $935.00.

“One of the barriers people in the industry face while considering the CDT certification, are the costs associated with testing. Through the Pillar Scholarship – funded exclusively from the Foundation’s donors – we are able to alleviate that burden and bring individuals closer to achieving their goal, and in result, advance themselves and their profession,” said Foundation Chair, Jeff Stronk. 







Affordable Dentures & Implants Provides Services to Veterans

Dentists from several Affordable Dentures & Implants locations across the U.S. traveled to Phoenix May 31-June 2 to provide free dental services to U.S. veterans in need through Brighter Way Institute and Implant Pathway. The organizations served 71 patients and performed 243 implants and fabricated 61 dentures, an estimated service value of over $550,000.

Earlier this year, Affordable Dentures & Implants announced it was partnering with Brighter Way of Phoenix to deliver free dental implant, oral surgery, and prosthetic treatment to U.S military veterans and homeless citizens. The network of affiliated dental practices expects to contribute nearly $3.25 million in pro bono implant and prosthetic services in 2017 alone.

Ivoclar Vivadent Introduces the New Programat® CS4 Furnace

Ivoclar Vivadent announced the introduction of the new Programat® CS4, a combination furnace for dental practices suitable for sintering zirconium oxide restorations—including IPS e.max® ZirCAD®. S.M.A.R.T. Training and Certification Information

On October 13 & 14, Dr. Ernesto Lee will be teaching a didactic and hands-on S.M.A.R.T. training and certification course in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The S.M.A.R.T. Method, developed by Dr. Lee, is a technique for minimally invasive bone grafting. This approach "provides superior outcomes with less pain, less swelling and fewer complications than traditional bone grafting procedures.  Only a small incision is required, with no flap elevation, no tenting screws and no membranes. Registration for the two-day course includes an instrument kit specifically created for SM.A.R.T. procedures. American Academy of Periodontology to Hold Annual Meeting in Boston

CHICAGO (June 19, 2017) — The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) will hold its 103rd Annual Meeting September 9–12, 2017, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts. All dental professionals—including students, early-career dentists, office staff, and members of the dental media—are encouraged to attend.

This year’s meeting, which provides up to 26 continuing education credits, features more than 20 new speakers and an array of courses in such topics as oral reconstructive surgery, dental implants, regenerative treatments, interdisciplinary therapies, practice management, and more. 

Returning to the AAP’s Annual Meeting is the Student and New Periodontist series (a curation of courses, events, and activities designed for early-career professionals) and the popular Dental Hygiene Symposium, a morning of hygienist-focused lectures on the perio-systemic link, implant maintenance, endoscopic periodontal debridement, and the future of laser therapy.

“The Academy is pleased to welcome thought-leaders and clinicians from all over the world to join us for this year’s Annual Meeting,” says Terrence J. Levine’s tales of adventure coupled with practical advice for today’s competitive business environment are sure to motivate and inspire. 

  • New Practical Courses: New opportunities include sessions on contemporary furcation management and virtual implant surgery. The results from this year’s Best Evidence Consensus on CBCT and Lasers are the subject of “Results from the Roundtables,” a discussion on the clinical value and applicability of these technologies to be held on Monday, Sept. 11.

  • Periodontal Career Fair: Practices seeking new associates or owners will be available to meet with periodontists starting their careers and others seeking new opportunities at the Periodontal Career Fair on Sunday, Sept. 10.

ADHA Recognizes Dental Hygiene Student Research

Jacksonville, Fla., June 22, 2017 – At its Annual Conference June 14-19, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) recognized undergraduate dental hygiene students for standout research in their field of study.  Students from dental hygiene education programs all over the U.S. presented their work at Jacksonville’s Prime Osborn Convention Center.

ADHA’s undergraduate research awards program is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline. Winners receive a cash prize, a matching monetary grant for their school and a crystal award to inspire their peers. Students may compete in two categories: Table Clinic/Informative Poster, or Undergraduate Research Poster.

ADHA Recognizes Graduate Student Dental Hygienist Researchers

Jacksonville, Fla., June 22, 2017 - At its Annual Conference June 14-19, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) recognized graduate-level dental hygiene students for original research in their field of study.  Eleven graduate students presented their work at Jacksonville’s Prime Osborn Convention Center.

The Dentsply Sirona/ADHA Graduate Student Clinicians Research Award Program is sponsored by Dentsply Sirona.  Chosen by their program director, student participants receive professional recognition and complimentary registration to ADHA’s annual conference, air travel, lodging and per diem for the conference. In addition, the first-place winner receives a $1,000 cash prize and travel expenses to attend the AADR/Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR) meeting, scheduled for March 21-24, 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During the AADR/CADR meeting, the winning student will present his or her winning research presentation on a non-competitive basis along with international winners throughout the world.

This year’s winners of the 9th Annual ADHA/Dentsply Sirona Student Research Clinicians Program are:

1st place – Kathryn Search, RDH, BSDH, MS - Old Dominion University

2nd place – Mindy Bennett RDH, BS - University of Missouri - Kansas City
