Posted on Friday, March 17, 2023

Neoss Group is pleased to announce that Professor Neil Meredith will again be an integral part of the Neoss family. Professor Meredith, together with Fredrik Engman, founded Neoss back in 2000 and served as the CEO for a decade, leading the company from a start-up to an established dental implant company with exceptional growth and success.

“It is with great pleasure to welcome Professor Neil Meredith back to Neoss. Neil was not only one of the founders of Neoss, he invented the RFA, the diagnostic technique that has since become Osstell. I really look forward to working with Neil,” says Dr. Robert Gottlander, CEO and President of Neoss Group.

Professor Meredith has been placing and restoring dental implants for over thirty years. After completing an MSc in Fixed Prosthodontics at the Eastman in London in 1987 he was awarded a PhD at Imperial College in 1992. exocad Presents New Software Releases at the International Dental Show in Cologne

Posted on Thursday, March 16, 2023

World premieres and many innovations at IDS 100 year anniversary

exocad, an Align Technology, Inc. company and a leading dental CAD/CAM software provider, announced multiple new products and service offerings, two limited-time software discounts, and a full spectrum of live education opportunities for attendees at the International Dental Show (IDS) 2023. With 11 demo stations and hourly live smile design sessions, exocad invited attendees to “Imagine the CADabilities” and discover its many software solutions for labs and clinics at the company’s newly branded booth in Koelnmesse’s hall 1. exocad’s Smile Creator Experience, the step-by-step live demo on how to use Smile Creator, took center stage as visitors stopped by to see the smile design process in person and ask the team of experts questions.

“This is a special year as the dental industry celebrates 100 years of IDS, and it’s a special year for exocad,” said Tillmann Steinbrecher, CEO of exocad. “We took the opportunity IDS provided to connect with our global community and to launch several new products, promotions and service opportunities to streamline workflows and improve outcomes.”

New products and services

At IDS, exocad introduced the final three releases of its 3.1 Rijeka software series: exoplan 3.1 Rijeka, for prosthetic-driven implant planning and surgical guide design, ChairsideCAD 3.1 Rijeka, for single-visit dentistry, and PartialCAD 3.1 Rijeka, for partial framework design.

The new software solutions include all the hallmarks of exocad software – stability, robustness, ease of use and an open architecture that allows seamless workflows and smooth integrations with users’ hardware of choice.

New AI-enhanced visualization for patient acceptance

Attendees showed great interest in the presentation of two upcoming, highly innovative software solutions for patient acceptance: TruSmile Video and a 3D face scan app. Both products were shown to the public for the first time at IDS as a sneak preview of the future of smile design.

With TruSmile Video, a new anterior tooth design is presented in a short video that shows the face of a patient who is speaking and smiling. From this video and the Smile Creator design, AI technology generates a realistic video to help increase patient understanding of potential treatment outcomes. Visitors were captivated by the realism of the AI patient videos and the new possibilities they offer.

The newly developed 3D face scan app enables realistic 3D scans of patients’ faces via a mobile phone camera, without any additional hardware. The camera is used to scan each patient's face in the app, and the AI-based software calculates a detailed 3D model, which is then loaded into the Smile Creator software. This makes 3D face scanning an affordable and accessible alternative to using photos for smile design.

Strategic partners and special offers

To support labs looking to outsource overflow work and expand service offerings, exocad announced third-party design services enabled through its dentalshare platform. exocad software users can outsource design requests and receive the completed case designs while staying within exocad’s dentalshare platform. exocad has initially partnered with the Vancouver-based dental technology company Evident to offer this service and plans to add further design service providers in the future.

exocad offered IDS attendees the chance to test many of the new DentalCAD 3.1 Rijeka modules and features like the new FullDenture IV add-on module available through Ivoclar. With FullDenture IV users can design dentures for Ivoclar’s Ivotion Denture System, providing a complete workflow for the digital production of high-quality, removable dentures. exocad also recently launched InCAD intraoral camera support for DentalCAD with iTero NIRI (near-infrared imaging) technology now visible within exocad design software. This enables technicians to see the internal and external tooth structures for better restoration designs. DentalCAD 3.1 Rijeka users now can also purchase the xSNAP Module to create models with printable articulators. The 3D articulator through xSNAP is easily attached to the model in DentalCAD and produced with the model in users’ 3D printer of choice.

exocad rolled out two, limited-time special offers at IDS, the ULTIMATE XXL and Software Swap, both available March 1–April 30, 2023. The ULTIMATE XXL offer allows users who purchase a new DentalCAD Ultimate Bundle to receive three complimentary exoplan core licenses for one year. With this offer, for example, a lab can retain one exoplan license for its own use and give the other two licenses to clinical customers of its choice to motivate them to dive into guided surgery. The second offer, Software Swap, provides a discount on a new exocad DentalCAD Ultimate Bundle license to customers who trade in their current, non-exocad CAD licenses.

Connection, scavenger hunt and social outreach at IDS

Visitors to exocad’s booth at IDS had the opportunity to connect with exocad’s own experts, as well as dental thought leaders Dr. Gulshan Murgai and Dr. Guilherme Saavedra, who presented exocad’s software solutions. Attendees took part in a scavenger hunt to visit the booths and demos of exocad’s resellers and received special prizes. Attendees could also buy T-Shirts with a special “Viva Colonia!” design, exocad’s limited edition IDS T-Shirt, available for sale only at IDS 2023 in Cologne. The company said all proceeds will be donated to Mini Molars Cambodia e.V., a Hamburg-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing dental care for children in need in Phnom Penh.

Additional information is available at exocad.com/IDS

exocad names its releases after EU “European Capitals of Culture” and selected the Croatian city of Rijeka for this release cycle.

Planmeca Introduces New AI-based Tools for Planmeca Romexis®

Posted on Thursday, March 16, 2023

Planmeca Romexis® is the most powerful software platform for dentistry, offering an extensive range of tools for dental imaging, diagnosis and treatment planning for all indications and dental specialties. At the International Dental Show 2023, Planmeca is proud to introduce several improvements and new AI-based tools to Romexis, which help optimise the daily tasks at a dental practice and make working with patient images and treatment planning even easier and faster.

Planmeca Romexis® is a flexible and powerful software platform that supports the most versatile range of 2D and 3D imaging as well as CAD/CAM work and provides an all-in-one solution for all specialities and clinics of all sizes. Planmeca has a strong and proven record of steadily adding new features and improvements to Romexis, allowing its users to always work with the latest innovations in digital dentistry. At IDS 2023, Planmeca is excited to introduce several improvements and new features to the software.

For the 3D imaging module, Planmeca is introducing a new AI-based feature, Romexis Smart. It allows the automatic segmentation and recognition of anatomies, such as teeth, nerves, jaws, airways, and sinuses, which enables easier and faster use of the software and an excellent visualisation of the case for patient education. With the help of artificial intelligence, CBCT images and intraoral scans are also automatically mapped. Thanks to the automatic tooth number recognition, a CBCT volume can be easily navigated just by clicking on the tooth number in the tooth chart and the software centres all views on the tooth of interest.

In addition, the recently released Planmeca Romexis® CAD/CAM module is expanding with a Planmeca Romexis® Ortho Simulator feature. With Romexis Ortho Simulator, intraoral scans can be used to simulate the true potential of a patient’s smile in a matter of minutes. The AI-based algorithm of the module creates simulation proposals for orthodontic cases and makes it easy to discuss treatment possibilities and showcase the potential of clear aligner treatments with patients. The proposals can also be adjusted manually with fast and intuitive simulation tools.

The Planmeca Romexis® CMF Surgery module for craniomaxillofacial surgery planning has been spiced up with new features and improvements to existing functionalities. The segmentation procedures have been improved and can even be fully automated with the new Romexis Smart tools. Additionally, landmarks can now be detected automatically, helping clinicians save precious time. The visualisation of a case has also been brought to a whole new level as it now includes the possibility to simulate changes in the soft tissues, which the patient can expect following the surgery.

On top of that, Romexis is offering a new service for users interested in time-savings and an AI-based image analysis service for intraoral X-ray images. Planmeca is launching a collaboration with Pearl to make Second Opinion service available within the Romexis platform. With the click of a button, users will receive AI evaluations of their intraoral X-ray images directly in Romexis for further examination and treatment planning. In addition to saving the clinician’s time, the analysis feature is an incredibly powerful tool for patient education and communication as it helps visualise caries, calculus and other findings in an X-ray image. The service also numbers the teeth and performs periodontic measurements automatically. Currently, the services supports both bitewing and periapical images, with support for panoramic images forthcoming.

“Our ultimate goal with Planmeca Romexis is to make the work of its users easier and help them create value with intuitive and easy-to-use software tools. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, Romexis helps clinicians to analyse data more quickly and accurately as well as use their time more efficiently. At the same time, we are taking data privacy and security very seriously and have built security into the software since day one. We are extremely proud that all Romexis users can follow responsible practices and meet tightening regulatory requirements for data security all around the world while using intelligent software tools that make their work flow,” states Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, Vice President of Digital Imaging and Applications at Planmeca.

Planmeca is presenting Planmeca Romexis and its new features and modules at IDS 2023.

Planmeca and BWT Start a Collaboration to Create Water Treatment Solutions for Dental Clinics

Posted on Wednesday, March 15, 2023

Healthcare technology manufacturer Planmeca has started a collaboration with Europe’s leading water technology company BWT. As a result of this partnership, the companies are introducing new water treatment solutions for dental units and autoclaves. The solutions will be presented for the first time at IDS 2023 in Cologne.

Planmeca x BWT Clean Water Systems are the result of the collaboration between two internationally renowned brands, bringing together Planmeca’s dental care technology and BWT’s water treatment expertise. The aim of the partnership is to provide optimal and reliable water treatment solutions for dental clinics around the world. The solutions are designed for clinics of all sizes and ensure that clean water is always available for dental units and autoclaves.

Clean water is essential in a clinic environment: it supports the safety of the clinic staff and helps to ensure a risk-free treatment environment for patients. Clean water is also needed to keep dental units, autoclaves, instruments, and other dental equipment functioning properly.

The Planmeca x BWT Clean Water Systems product range includes water treatment solutions for different needs and different clinic environments.

For individual dental units, the product range offers Planmeca Patrol™ by BWT, a dental unit integrated water filtration system that doesn’t require any external filters. The system removes unwanted particles from the water entering the unit, prevents limescale formation, adjusts water hardness and improves the smell and taste of the water. Filtered water will help keep dental units and instruments functioning properly, preventing unexpected service calls and downtime.

The product range also includes water filtration systems for individual autoclaves and for clinics with multiple dental units and autoclaves, as well as water disinfection solutions for clinics and dental schools. The disinfection solutions bring significant time and cost savings to larger clinic environments, since they keep dental unit waterlines continuously clean without the need for separate waterline cleaning.

“We are happy to have started this collaboration with BWT, a company renowned for its water technology solutions. Our dental units and their water treatment know-how are a perfect match, and there is enormous potential to expand this cooperation into new areas and new innovative solutions in the future,” says Tuomas Jurvanen, Vice President for Planmeca’s dental care units.

“We are proud of the collaboration with Planmeca. It is an honour to provide BWT water treatment systems for their customers around the world. The clinic owners will benefit from a sustainable clean water solution for dental units and autoclaves with a minimum consumption of the earth's resources,” says Tonni Bechmann Angelsø, Global Dental Business Manager from BWT.

Discover Planmeca x BWT Clean Water Systems at IDS 2023 from 14−18 March in Hall 1, Stand A20−C29.
