Florida Dental Association Applauds Fluoride Vote

Posted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Tallahassee, Fla.The Florida Dental Association (FDA) congratulates the Pinellas County Commission and its citizens for the decision to reinstate optimal fluoridation levels in its water system, according to the Florida Courier. Dr. Kim Jernigan, President of the FDA, issued the following statement: “The citizens of Pinellas County were well served today by the actions of the County Commission. Thank you to the Pinellas County Commission for its vote today.”

Fluoride is a naturally occurring substance in the water. Adjusting the optimal levels of fluoridation is a cost-effective way to reduce the amount of decay without harming one’s health, according to the FDA.

The FDA also wishes to acknowledge the local dental community for its diligence in pursuing a positive resolution to this public health issue.

The FDA is a statewide, professional association representing the dental profession in Florida. A constituent society of the ADA, the FDA’s mission is to improve the oral health of Florida residents, promote ethical practice standards, and direct the evolution of the practice environment through continuous education and advocacy for the profession and the public.
