DTA Foundation Grants Top $1 Million

Posted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Since 2002, the DTA Foundation Grants program has provided $1,105,708 to fund 53 projects dedicated to developing innovative projects designed to increase access to oral health care in America and six scholarships for third and fourth year dental students. These grants were made possible because of the generosity of the DTA member community.

“The $1 million mark is a great testament that dental industry businessmen and businesswomen truly care about those less fortunate and put their money where their mouth is,” said DTA Foundation Chairman Steve Knight with Crown Seating in Centennial, Colo.

Successful grant recipients had to demonstrate that their innovative pilot project would improve access to oral care in their immediate area and have the potential to be implemented in other areas of the country. Past recipients have used DTA Foundation seed money to expand and create access to oral health care for an expanding number of needy Americans.

In addition, the DTA Foundation, in partnership with the Robert J. Sullivan Family Foundation and the Dr. Edward B. Shils Entrepreneurial Fund, Inc., is funding four $5,000 scholarships this year to recognize dental students who have an established commitment to community service. The scholarship provides financial support for tuition and fees to a third or fourth year dental student who has demonstrated:

  • Academic excellence in dentistry.

  • Financial need.

  • A commitment to community service.

“DTAF is the premier organization which provides a vehicle for companies, their owners and employees to give back to people in need,” Mr. Knight said. “It is the only philanthropic organization which represents the business side of our industry.”

The dental community supports the DTA Foundation with donations, yearly pledges and generous gifts. Click here to view a list of grant recipients and find out more about the pilot programs they started with DTA Foundation funds.
