CHICAGO (July 15, 2013) — The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) recently honored four professionals for their contributions to the dental profession and their efforts to further the organization’s mission. They were recognized during the AGD 2013 Annual Meeting & Exhibits, held June 27-30, in Nashville, Tenn.

Nancy Honeycutt, CAE, executive director of the American Student Dental Association, received the AGD 2013 Honorary Membership Award. This distinct honor is presented to individuals who provide outstanding service to the dental profession and embody the vision, principles, and goals of the AGD. “Nancy has shown great passion and leadership in guiding dental students, the future of our profession,” says AGD Immediate Past President Jeffrey M. Cole, DDS, MBA, FAGD. “The AGD recognizes Ms. Honeycutt’s commitment to ensuring an ongoing dialogue between our two organizations on issues important to dental students and our profession.”

Larry Rosenthal, PhD, Marko Vujicic, PhD, and Gary Price, received Presidential Citations for contributing their time, talent, and expertise to furthering the AGD’s mission and vision.

Dr. Rosenthal, a nonprofit organization management consultant and owner of The Kaleidoscope Associates LLC, served as the AGD’s interim executive director while facilitating the search process for a new, permanent executive director. “His knowledge of association management and his no-nonsense approach are impressive, and his actions showed that he truly cared about the success of this organization,” Dr. Cole says.

Dr. Vujicic, managing vice president of the American Dental Association (ADA) Health Policy Resources Center, has researched and presented information that helps dental professionals understand the trends and threats facing the profession. “The information he—and the ADA—has been willing to share with us has given us the knowledge and capability to help better plan and shape the future of our profession,” Dr. Cole says.

Price, president and chief executive officer of the Dental Trade Alliance, has helped manage the collaborative efforts of the Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives—a coalition of 35 partners, including the AGD, working to increase oral health literacy among children and parents. “Gary took an idea that most people thought was too big to tackle and made it a reality,” Dr. Cole says. “He’s been instrumental in the success of the Partnership’s multimillion-dollar ad campaign, which stresses the importance of brushing for 2 minutes twice a day.”
