AB-Biotics Launches First Probiotic Specifically Designed for Caries, Gingivitis, and Halitosis

Barcelona (Spain), March. -- Spanish biotech company AB-Biotics has launched the first probiotic specifically designed to fight the oral pathogens causing caries, gingivitis, and halitosis or bad breath, very common oral health diseases that can affect up to 99% of the population. The formula, called AB-Dentis, contains two strains (Lactobacillus plantarum andLactobacillus brevis), which have bactericidal activity against the most common oral pathogens without producing important amounts of acids, preserving the teeth.

AB-Dentis can be administered in products like chewing gums, toothpastes and dentifrices, denture products, or mouth sprays. To bring this probiotic to the market, AB-Biotics has signed a distribution agreement with the Danish firm CMS Dental, which will have the rights to market AB-Dentis worldwide until 2022. CMS Dental has 25 years’ experience in the development of dental products and will present AB-Dentis during the International Dental Supply (IDS), to be held in Cologne, Germany, March 12-16, which will feature more than 1,900 exhibitors from 55 countries.

Using in vitro studies, AB-Biotics’ team selected from more than 550 wild strains those who had higher antibacterial activity against pathogens causing caries, gingivitis, and halitosis, common disorders in large populations. The strains selected for the AB-Dentis’ formula colonize the mouth adhering to teeth, gums and tongue to prevent the introduction of pathogens and displace those already in place.
