Untreated sleep apnea prevents the patient from getting a good night’s sleep. This chronic sleep deprivation results in daytime sleepiness, poor concentration, and an increased risk of accidents. Sleep apnea can also lead to serious health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and weight gain. The most common form of treatment has been Continuous Positive Air Pressure or CPAP. In recent years, however, Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) has been gaining wider acceptance especially since the AASM now supports their use in mild to moderate cases of sleep apnea or when the patient is CPAP intolerant. As more dentists enter this growing market, the need for education and the appropriate products will continue to grow. Henry Schein Dental has introduced Sleep Complete, a new “turnkey” program that provides the dentist with the education and products necessary for them to implement a successful dental sleep medicine program within their practice. The Sleep Complete Implementation Package includes a two-day, “hands-on” seminar (14 CE credits), a starter package providing “pre-paid” vouchers for The Moses and EMA oral appliances, Dental Writer Diagnostic Report Writer and Medical Billing Software for Dentistry and Itamar Medical’s WatchPAT 200 Portable Sleep Monitoring Device.
