Digital Integration Facilitates Seamless Workflow

Carestream Dental’s suite of digital hardware and software expands Bolding’s possibilities

Scotty L. Bolding, DDS, MS, worked with state-of-the-art equipment at Baylor College of Dentistry while earning his DDS and postdoctoral MS in craniofacial biology. When he moved back to his native Arkansas to practice, one of his priorities was maintaining an emphasis on using the best tools and technologies.

"Offering as high a level of care in this state as I would be able to anywhere else in the country was important to me," says Bolding, who has been practicing in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for 26 years now. "We have always prided ourselves on being an advanced-level practice. We take trauma calls, work in hospitals, and work with our dental and medical communities to provide an array of services for oral and maxillofacial surgical care."

With that in mind, Bolding has used Carestream Dental products for a number of years, most recently including the CS WinOMS Cloud, CS 3600 intraoral scanner, CS 9600 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) system, Prosthetic-Driven Implant Planning module, and CS Airway module.

"Recent advancements for the suite of imaging software have allowed us to add the imaging component to the practice management software as well," Bolding says. "We can put all of our photographs and radiographs into that same set of records."

"The CS 9600 is a state-of-the-art CBCT system that provides very clear images in a 3-dimensional format, and it has airway imaging capabilities as well," he adds. "I can now obtain an in-depth view of not only the structure of the bone but also the integrity and health of the bone within the joint."

Bolding performs extensive nonsurgical temporomandibular joint treatment via splints, and he says that the ability to automatically stitch his CBCT scans to his impression scans taken with the CS 3600 is crucial for that workflow.

"That essentially provides us with a virtual articulator to design the splints," he says. Carestream Dental has also added the ability to automatically stitch 3D facial scans with those data sets as well.

"Carestream Dental really tries to understand the digital workflow needs of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and the dental community as a whole," he says. "I am excited to have technologies that are completely integrated and allow my workflows to be almost seamless."
