The Planmeca Emerald™ Intraoral Scanner

Make a great first impression

The Planmeca Emerald™ is a lightweight, ergonomically designed intraoral scanner that quickly captures vibrant color images in real time. Planmeca Emerald provides clinicians with a compact, slim design for a comfortable feel and superior control while capturing an image. Automatic fog prevention, which is built into the streamlined scanner tips, enables continuous scanning of any size patient. In addition, the seamless and autoclavable scanning tips help prevent cross infection and increase patient safety.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Planmeca Emerald is its speed. Dental professionals can capture accurate impressions, ranging from a single tooth to a full arch, within several seconds. The scanner features a digital light processing projection system that uses an array of multicolor lasers. Consequently, the images captured by the Planmeca Emerald display in a vibrant color palette for realistic impressions.

The Planmeca Emerald is built on an open system platform to facilitate smooth integration with other equipment in the dental office. The plug-and-play capability with USB 3.0 connection allows clinicians to move between operatories within the office and effectively use the Emerald without concerns related to Wi-Fi connectivity. This portability also enables sharing between multiple computers. A detachable electrical cord eliminates the need to replace the entire Emerald scanner due to wear and tear of the cord, thereby extending the life of the device. The Emerald simplifies data exchange and connectivity within the clinician’s office as well as with the lab. When used with the Planmeca Romexis® Smile Design software and open STL files, collaboration with labs becomes worry-free. The Planmeca Emerald gives clinicians the freedom to practice dentistry the way that best suits their office. Clinicians who prefer only to scan can send the files to third parties without additional click fees or subscription fees, and those who wish to offer “same day dentistry” to patients can add a mill.

According to Walter G. Renné, DMD, a professor at the Medical University of South Carolina, “The Planmeca Emerald is blazingly fast. It’s remarkable when you’re going through soft tissue; you’re able capture things that you couldn’t capture before with other systems. The quality of the color seems to be true to life—it’s really going to help distinguish those hard-to-see areas clinically. Another thing I noted is how easy it is to use and how light it is. When I’m scanning, it feels like I’m not holding anything.”

When introducing patients to digital impression systems, the Planmeca Emerald’s vibrant color, accuracy, comfort, and real-time scanning capabilities make perfect restorations possible and allow clinicians to make “a great first impression.”
