DentalEZ® Celebrates 100 Years of Columbia Dentoform® Teaching Solutions

Posted on Monday, April 3, 2017

Malvern, PA  (March 22, 2017) – DentalEZ®, a supplier of integrated products and services for dental health professionals worldwide, is pleased to announce that 2017 marks the 100th year of its Columbia Dentoform® Teaching Solutions product line. For over ten decades, Columbia has provided lifelike teaching models for dental, hygiene, and veterinary students around the world.

Founded by Columbia University Engineering School graduate Ben Spitzer, the Company had its start in Manhattan, New York. Initially called Columbia Dental and X-Ray Company, the Company originally provided x-ray equipment for dental offices. In 1917, it added metal typodonts to its product offerings but shortly after, discontinued the x-ray equipment to focus exclusively on the dental models. Columbia’s first typodont clients were located in local New York dental schools, and today, 100 years later, Columbia Dentoform products are sold to teaching institutions around the world.

“We are extremely proud of Columbia’s rich history that has diligently served the unique requirements of dental institutions and students for over 100 years,” remarked Bob Senesac, Sr. Director of Marketing for DentalEZ. “Shortly after its inception, Columbia quickly evolved into a Company that focused on producing quality, lifelike teaching models, while simultaneously improving the instructional process and learning experience for all dental students. We expect to continue to adhere to these principles during the next 100 years.”

Focused on all dental and hygiene students, all Columbia typodont models are designed realistically so that students are able to practice dental and hygiene procedures as though they are working in an actual oral cavity, thoroughly preparing them for real-life practice. Columbia offers standard models and teeth for nearly every teaching situation but also takes pride in customizing unique solutions for all types of teaching institutions including specialty areas such as orthodontic, pediatric, and veterinary dentistry.

Moreover, Columbia also offers manikins to make student practice as realistic as possible and include adult, pediatric, and anesthesia “patients” that perfectly simulate the actual human head and mouth size. The Company even provides lifelike animal typodont models including cats and dogs for veterinary dental education.

While its history stretches back more than a century, the Columbia brand is looking toward the future with a continuous launch of products. “We are as committed today as we were 100 years ago on establishing new industry standards for design, quality, and service to the dental industry and profession,” remarked Philip Briales, Director of Sales, Columbia Dentoform Teaching Solutions.
