Expanded Laboratory Brand Experience

A novel approach to excellence

Executive Editor Daniel Alter, MSc, MDT, CDT | daniel.alter@broadcastmed.com

One certainty in this industry is the continuous evolution of the dental space as dental clinicians change their business models and pivot according to the needs of their patients, as well as due to practice profitability and sustainability. This shift in clinical culture affords a tremendous opportunity for the astute dental laboratory owner and manager to align and further support their clientele, while also broadening the support for dental hygienists, treatment coordinators, and dental assistants as decision-makers for their patients and practices. Dental laboratories can exercise their positive brand extension through developing education opportunities and stronger relationships with dental hygienists, treatment coordinators, and dental assistants, who can then serve as valuable extensions to dental laboratory branding and overall experience. Are you currently building relationships with your clientele's supporting staff? It is an effort that offers a unique and different approach to dental laboratory brand building, and something that we as a dental laboratory community have not traditionally been engaged in, but it provides for significant ROI.

Dental hygienists, treatment coordinators, and dental assistants often act as a bridge, facilitating clear and accurate communication between patients, clinicians, and laboratory technicians. They gather information about patients' needs, preferences, and concerns, and relay this information to the dental laboratory, ensuring that the laboratory technicians have a complete understanding of the desired outcomes. That on its own affords for an enhanced patient experience and thereby better dentist/client satisfaction.

Through patient-centered care, oral health education, effective communication, adherence to safety protocols, commitment to professional development, and support from the dental laboratory—both with technology and restorative dental material knowledge—supporting staff can contribute to creating a positive and reputable image for dental practices. Their efforts not only enhance patient satisfaction but also promote loyalty and trust, positively positioning the dental laboratory as a preferred choice for comprehensive dental care in the eyes of both the clinician and their patients.

These supporting staff are committed to ongoing professional development, staying updated with the latest advancements and techniques in dental care. Dental laboratories are uniquely positioned to provide tremendous value in facilitating learning opportunities such as lunch and learns, practice-focused webinars, evening events, personal interactions, and more. Supporting the development of their expertise in the latest technologies and treatment options will reflect positively on the dental laboratory's brand, thereby positioning it as a center of innovation, excellence, and expertise for all involved.

It is my great pride and honor to elevate and inspire with knowledge.
