IDT’s ColLABoration 2013

The inaugural run of IDT’s annual tradeshow fostered a learning environment for the entire dental team

As a general dentist and a lab owner, I have always thought a forum where dentists and laboratory technicians could exchange thoughts and ideas in a collaborative environment was truly necessary,” says Edward Roman, DDS of Washington, PA. It was this type of synergistic, team-oriented approach that Inside Dental Technology had in mind when we launched our ColLABoration tradeshow. An innovative take on continuing education, ColLABoration brought all members of the dental team together in a learning environment that promoted a team approach to patient care.

A partner of the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GDNYM), ColLABoration took place from December 1-4, 2013. During these four days, the GNYDM was host to over 53,000 dental professionals—including over 1,100 laboratory professionals. Held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY, this is the biggest healthcare and dental event in the United States. Beyond the meeting’s thousands of attendees, hundreds of exhibitors, and dozens of educational opportunities, it is also now the birthplace of the first ever collaborative show for the entire dental team.

With exhibitors, lectures, and workshops all sharing space on the show floor, ColLABoration attendees were able to interact with manufacturers and see the latest technological innovations, take in spur-of-the-moment table demonstrations, and earn free continuing education credits in one easy-to-navigate environment. Continuing education was available in both lecture and hands-on formats, with many courses preregistered to capacity weeks before the actual event. Some of the most sought after courses were ColLABoration’s “Team Presentations,” which partnered industry-leaders in the clinical and technical arenas to showcase truly collaborative approaches to dental care. Edward Roman cited the team focus of this event as a great pull for dentists and laboratory technicians alike. “This event provides the opportunity for dentists and lab technicians to bridge the gap in knowledge, understanding, and mutual appreciation of our respective professions,” he says.

Enthusiasm for ColLABoration only increased as the event went on, and attendees expressed interest in returning in the years to come.
