A Fast and Effective Broad-Spectrum Surface Disinfectant

Sheila Barone, BS, RDH, on OPTIM® 1

With a 1-minute broad-spectrum contact time, OPTIM® 1 is one of the fastest and most effective cleaner and intermediate-level disinfectants. It is listed as a category IV, the EPA's lowest-toxicity category. OPTIM® 1 provides confidence that you are compliant and mindful of patients, staff, equipment, and the environment without compromise: the perfect balance.

How fast does OPTIM® 1 act?

Its surface wetness time is 1 minute for tuberculosis and 30 seconds for SARS-COV-2, the virus that leads to COVID-19.

Why is it significant that OPTIM® 1's active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide?

This makes it more broad-spectrum in its pathogen kill than other
surface disinfectants.

How is it more user-friendly than other surface disinfectants?

OPTIM® 1 is nontoxic, and it also does not damage dental operatory equipment like other surface disinfectants can.

I worked as a dental hygienist for 11 years in private general dentistry and periodontics practices before joining SciCan in 2018 as an Infection Control Specialist and Territory Representative for OPTIM®1 surface disinfectant. I love this role because, in dentistry, we practice infection control on every patient, in every operatory, every day; if it is not handled properly, it carries hefty risks for compromising the health of the patient, the health of the provider, and the liability of the practice. It is an extremely important topic any time, but especially now, when we have headlines centered around a disease outbreak and so much emphasis on infection control measures.
