CE: General Anesthesia for Dental Treatment in a Patient With Huntington’s Chorea
Irena Haimov-Kaldess, DMD; Doron Haim, DMD, MPA; and Adi Garfunkel, DMD
This CE article discusses factors that must be considered by the dentist-anesthesiologist team in treating patients with Huntington’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. The primary goal in general anesthesia for these patients is to provide airway protection and a rapid and safe recovery. This article includes a case report that describes treatment for a patient with Huntington’s disease, which is characterized by uncontrolled movements. General anesthesia with a proper choice of drugs is shown to be a safe approach in patients with this condition or other neurodegenerative disorders.
