The article describes the concept of motivational interviewing (MI), pointing out both the benefits of this patient-focused strategy as well as the limitations of traditional prescriptive, clinician-driven dental health education. The authors provide evidence for the effectiveness of MI and explain how it can be utilized in a clinical setting.
