Compendium Welcomes Dr. Markus B. Blatz as Editor-in-Chief

As the publishers of Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, we are pleased to announce that Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD, Prof Dr med dent, will begin serving as the journal's new Editor-in-Chief effective with this, the May 2021 issue.

Dr. Blatz is amply qualified for this responsibility. He is currently Professor of Restorative Dentistry, Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences, and Assistant Dean for Digital Innovation and Professional Development at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also founded the Penn Dental Medicine CAD/CAM Ceramic Center. In addition, he is board certified by the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials, co-founder and immediate past President of the International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry, a founding member of the European Academy of Digital Dentistry, and a member of numerous other professional organizations. A graduate of Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, Dr. Blatz was awarded additional Doctorate Degrees, a Postgraduate Certificate in Prosthodontics, and a Professorship from the same University.

And, perhaps equally as important, he has had a long-standing relationship with Compendium as an author, Advisory Board member, and guest editor.

When we became the publishers of Compendium some 13 years ago in 2008, we had the honor of being able to bring on Louis F. Rose, DDS, MD, as Editor-in-Chief. A foremost key opinion leader in the area of restorative/prosthetics, periodontics, and advanced implant restorative dentistry, Dr. Rose has provided this publication with vital leadership, enabling Compendium to excel in its mission of bringing journal-based continuing education to the dental community.

Dr. Rose, who followed in the footsteps of the late Dr. D. Walter Cohen, the founder of Compendium, has served as an exemplary EIC. His input and guidance have been a driving force in shaping the journal during his tenure, and we thank him for his dedication and efforts. The vision and direction he has given us has been invaluable, and we are pleased that he will now transition to become the journal's Editor Emeritus.

For more than four decades, Compendium has delivered authoritative content on new techniques, clinical research, and critical issues in oral health. Education and credibility have always been hallmarks of Compendium, and throughout its rich history the journal has maintained a tradition of excellence as a trusted resource for practitioners. We are excited that Dr. Blatz, who becomes just the third EIC in the journal's 42 years, has agreed to lead Compendium into its next phase, to not only maintain that tradition but to build upon it.
