Futurist Mike Walsh, CEO of innovation consultancy Tomorrow and award-winning, bestselling author of Futuretainment, is delivering the keynote address at the American Association of Endodontists’ annual meeting known as AAE19 in Montréal, taking place April 10-13.
Walsh will kick off the gathering of endodontists from around the world at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. His speech will touch on the importance of adapting dentistry, practices and small business for the 21st century. Walsh will summarize trends currently shaping the future of business and consumer behavior, and the lessons learned from successful Fortune 500 companies on leveraging disruptive innovation, adopting a data-driven mindset and leading change through digital transformation.
Walsh was recognized as one of Australia’s “Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30”. He then spent five years in senior strategy roles at News Corporation, where he helped shape the digital strategy for both their Australian newspaper and Asian TV divisions. Directly engaged by the CEO of Star TV to provide the company with a digital roadmap for their operations, he began his in-depth research into the fast growth markets of Asia, which became the inspiration for his first book, Futuretainment.
The bestselling book won an Art Directors Club of New York award. Walsh’s latest book is The Dictionary of Dangerous Ideas, a collection of the most challenging concepts facing business leaders at the dawn of the 21st century. Each week, he interviews provocative thinkers, innovators and troublemakers on his weekly podcast, “Between Worlds”.
The AAE19 events also include the Association President's Breakfast, the AAE award ceremony and a variety of hands-on, educational opportunities for dental professionals. To view the entire meeting schedule, visit aae.org/AAE19.

Henry Schein, Inc., the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental and medical practitioners, has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, as one of the 2019 World's Most Ethical Companies.
This is the eighth consecutive year that Henry Schein has been recognized, and it is the only honoree in the Healthcare Products industry, underscoring the company's commitment to delivering the solutions health care professionals rely on to improve the performance of their practice so they can improve the lives of patients.
In 2019, 128 honorees were recognized, spanning 21 countries and 50 industries. The 13th class of honorees profoundly illustrate how companies continue to be the driving force for improving communities, building capable and empowered workforces, and fostering corporate cultures focused on ethics and a strong sense of purpose.
"Throughout our 87-year history, Henry Schein has been committed to pursuing our business goals with integrity while also serving the needs of society," said Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "We are honored to once again be recognized as one of the Ethisphere Institute's World's Most Ethical Companies. This recognition reinforces our commitment to the concept of enlightened self-interest and our 'higher ambition' model of deep, trust-based partnerships. I am honored to share this award with the more than 18,000 Team Schein Members around the world."
"Henry Schein has demonstrated that corporate success and positive societal impact go hand-in-hand when an organization aligns its strengths as a business with the needs of society," said Ethisphere's Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich. "Congratulations to Team Schein for once again being named a World's Most Ethical Company."
Ethics & Performance
Ethisphere's annual practice of tracking how the stock prices of publicly traded honorees compare to the Large Cap Index found that listed 2019 World's Most Ethical Companies outperformed the large cap sector over five years by 14.4 percent and over three years by 10.5 percent.
Methodology & Scoring
The World's Most Ethical Companies assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Quotient® (EQ) framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company's performance in an objective, consistent, and standardized manner. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance, and ethics.
Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), governance (15 percent), and leadership and reputation (10 percent). All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores, providing them with valuable insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.
The full list of the 2019 World's Most Ethical Companies can be found at https://worldsmostethicalcompanies.com/honorees.
Best practices and insights from the 2019 honorees will be released in a report and webcast in March and April of this year. Sign up to receive the report.

As part of its mission to support oral health education for underserved communities, America’s ToothFairy awarded a $5,000 grant to the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. The presentation, which took place at their annual Celebration of Smiles event held February 21st during the Chicago Dental Society’s MidWinter Meeting, was part of America’s ToothFairy’s Chicago Smiles Initiative.
In Chicago 63% of third graders have cavities and more than half go untreated. Last year, the initiative helped 19,298 children and 11,583 caregivers in and around Chicago receive oral health education.
“The Pediatric Dentistry Clinic provided clinical services and oral health education for 9,692 children last year and is training tomorrow’s dentists as part of the University’s College of Dentistry," said Jill Malmgren, Executive Director of America’s ToothFairy, during the presentation. “We are so pleased to support their work in the coming year with the help from GC America!”

About The ADHA Institute for Oral Health:
In collaboration with the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, The ADHA Institute for Oral Health provides thousands of dollars each year to advance the profession of dental hygiene through scholarship, research, and service. These monies have been awarded to dental hygiene students for educational needs (Scholarships), to those expanding the field of dental hygiene (Research Grants) and to dental hygienists to provide oral health care and education to those in their communities (Community Service Grants).
The foundation’s mission is to support the charitable educational, research and scientific endeavors of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) which will improve the public’s total health by increasing the awareness of and access to quality oral healthcare.
Every baby deserves the very best right from the start, including the best oral health. Starting in February, as the oral health community turned its attention to the pediatric population, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) began partnering with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on the Protect Tiny Teeth campaign.
“Early childhood caries (ECC) still affects more children than it should,” said ADHA Chief Executive Officer Ann Battrell, MSDH. “In some cases, mothers unknowingly and unintentionally pass the bacteria that cause ECC to their child. ADHA and AAP want to make sure that all pregnant women and new moms have the information necessary to ensure the best start for their child’s oral health.”
The Protect Tiny Teeth project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Its initial phases involved creation of an online toolkit to help oral health care providers educate pregnant women about their own and their child’s oral health.
Educational messages explain the relationship of bacteria to ECC, emphasizing that pregnancy itself does not cause mouth problems and that dental care is both safe and necessary for expectant mothers. Protect Tiny Teeth also teaches mothers how to care for their infant’s mouth before teeth erupt, and that the first dental visit should come before the first birthday. Resources are available in English and Spanish.
ADHA’s contribution to Protect Tiny Teeth involves creation of a companion toolkit specifically for the dental hygienist to use in parent education. ADHA is distributing additional messaging through its social media channels and publications. For more information, access ADHA’s Protect Tiny Teeth toolkit online at www.adha.org/protect-tiny-teeth.
About the American Dental Hygienists’ Association — The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 185,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. For more information about the ADHA, dental hygiene or the link between oral health and general health, visit the ADHA at www.adha.org.

According to MouthWatch Founder and CEO Brant Herman, “We’ve been adding a lot of enhancements and new features to TeleDent during the past year. Here are some of the new features included in TeleDent 2.0 that are boosting its treatment planning and task management capabilities and optimizing TeleDent-enabled patient encounters overall:
• API Architecture - One of the most significant features included in TeleDent 2.0 is an API architecture that will enable easy connectivity and integration with practice management, digital imaging and EHR systems. “Our open architecture “bolt-on” compatibility will help establish TeleDent as the industry standard teledentistry hub for seamless connectivity and increased scalability.
• Improved Scalability –TeleDent 2.0 supports more locations, larger referral networks plus better controls for internal and external users. “In other words, we’ve made TeleDent stronger to better adapt to rapidly-growing group practices and public health programs across a range of settings.”
• Integration Support - MouthWatch has created a TeleDent Integration Services Team to help its clients connect the TeleDent API with their existing practice management, digital imaging and EHR systems. This ensures proper installation and implementation.
• Calendar Application Synchronization - One of the challenges of using teledentistry for live collaboration is that of accommodating the busy schedule of each clinician on the care team. TeleDent 2.0 now supports appointment management for teledentistry encounters. .
“We’re continuously improving TeleDent to make collaboration and communication more efficient between internal dental teams and external care providers across virtually any public health or private practice application,” says Herman. “We look forward to demonstrating TeleDent 2.0 at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting.”
TeleDent 2.0 will be shipping in March and like its predecessor, requires a MouthWatch intraoral camera for best results and can utilize virtually any Windows 10 tablet or laptop for local data collection and image capture. Current TeleDent clients will be upgraded to the latest version free of charge. For more information, download the TeleDent product sheet at https://MouthWatch.co/TeleDent1sheet.
