Zimmer Biomet Dental Launches New Line of Non-Resorbable Membranes and Sutures

Posted on Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Zimmer Biomet (NYSE and SIX: ZBH), a global leader in musculoskeletal healthcare, is pleased to announce the expansion of its Dental product portfolio to include non-resorbable membranes and sutures. The new OsseoGuard® non-resorbable product line includes dense PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) membranes in multiple texture variations, as well as a titanium mesh and PTFE sutures. OsseoGuard products are currently available in the US and Canada.

OsseoGuard membranes are specifically engineered to eliminate bacterial infiltration into the surgical site while preventing tissue from growing into the bone cavity. High-density PTFE used in the manufacturing process greatly reduces the membrane’s pore size to a submicron (less than 0.3 microns) level. OsseoGuard non-resorbable dental membranes are recommended in certain complex cases, such as vertical ridge augmentation procedures, where longer lasting and space-maintaining membranes are needed because resorbable products may resorb too quickly.

“Zimmer Biomet Dental is very excited to now provide advanced barrier membranes and sutures to our customers for ridge augmentation and other relevant procedures,” said Indraneel Kanaglekar, Vice President, Global Product Management and R&D. “As a market leader in dental regenerative solutions, it is important that we keep diversifying and growing our available solutions in order to address the specific needs and preferences of clinicians.”

OsseoGuard non-resorbable membranes are available in a variety of textured, smooth (non-textured), titanium reinforced and titanium mesh options, giving a clinician the choice of different handling, shapes, sizes and thicknesses. OsseoGuard sutures offer eight precision needle options. These new products supplement the already robust portfolio of resorbable membranes, which includes Puros® Pericardium, CopiOs® Pericardium, CopiOs Extend®, BioMend®, BioMend Extend™, OsseoGuard and OsseoGuard Flex®.
