House Votes to Repeal Medical Device Tax

Posted on Monday, July 30, 2018

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2017, repealing the 2.3% medical device excise tax that was first passed in 2010 but had been delayed several times.

The Protect Medical Innovation Act, also known as H.R. 184, passed 283 to 132 and now moves to the Senate. The 2.3% tax on sales by manufacturers and importers was enacted to fund 2010’s Affordable Care Act.
