AACD Alters Rules for Technicians

Posted on Tuesday, August 2, 2016

American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) Fellowship Chairman Bradley J. Olson DDS, FAACD, recently announced a change in protocol for AACD Accredited Laboratory Technicians pursuing Fellowship. Laboratory technicians will now present 30 cases as opposed to the prior requirement of 50 cases.

The change was approved by both the Fellowship Committee and the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry.

“Laboratory technicians face obstacles not experienced by dentists, and this protocol change aligns the process with the ratio similar to Accreditation,” Olson says.

The purpose of Fellowship is to provide the highest level of achievement for members in accordance with the AACD's mission of education and excellence. To date, 70 individuals have achieved Accredited Fellow status within the Academy, including six laboratory technicians.

“Laboratory technicians are enormously valued partners in patient care and in the AACD," Olson says, "and this action further accentuates our commitment to technicians and their pursuit of the Academy’s highest honor.”

The new protocol can be found at aacd.com/fellowship. Questions can be referred to the AACD Credentialing Department.
