Millennium Dental Technologies Announces Historic Sales at 2016 CDA Presents

Posted on Thursday, May 19, 2016

CERRITOS, Calif., May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Record sales to general dentists versus periodontal specialists were achieved at the CDA Presents 2016 Scientific Session in Anaheim, this past weekend of May 12-14 2016.

Hugh Sule, DDS, a LANAP certified specialist and general practitioner from Guam, attended all 3 days as a spokesperson for Millennium Dental Technologies (MDT).  Dr. Sule, who has been practicing the LANAP Protocol for 7 years asserted, "The PerioLase MVP-7 is the Golden Wand that makes the LANAP Protocol the Gold Standard for True Regeneration! All dentists should have this available for their patients."

More PerioLase Periodontal Packages were sold at the 2016 CDA meeting than the past 4 years combined.  "The tide seems to shifting from periodontal specialists back to general practitioners, and it's seismic," commented Robert H Gregg, DDS, inventor of the LANAP Protocol.

Eight years ago, MDT saw a shift of sales from general dentists to periodontal specialists with the company's FDA clearance for 'cementum-mediated new attachment.'  In March 2016, MDT received FDA clearance for periodontal true regeneration – new cementum, new periodontal ligament and new alveolar bone.

"The new FDA clearance for True Regeneration is a clear, clean, simple concept for non-specialists to appreciate the huge significance that the LANAP Protocol makes for patients suffering from gum disease," remarks Dawn M. Gregg, DDS, MDT vice president operations. "Patients also easily understand the difference between regeneration and other treatment options including 'deep cleaning' and classic bone surgery."

Awrel Unveils Mobile and Web Application for HIPAA-Compliant Texting

Posted on Thursday, May 19, 2016

Awrel, a Boston-based start-up, today announced that the first-ever HIPAA-compliant texting application for quick, easy, and secure dental communication and collaboration is available from the App Store for iPhone users and from the Google Play Store for Android users. Developed by dental professionals for use across the dental industry, the solution helps save time and money by streamlining workflow. Perhaps most important, the application’s design ensures that information exchange complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), safeguarding individuals and organizations from the risk of being fined for unlawfully sharing protected patient information.

“Thousands of today’s dental professionals are breaking HIPAA privacy rules by sharing information using embedded SMS texting functionality. Many among them are unaware of the serious risk they face in doing so,” said Lee Culp, a respected innovator, author and lecturer in the dental lab industry. “Awrel is an industry game-changer. Now, dental professionals can use cell phones and mobile devices to quickly and easily share patient data in a secure, HIPAA-compliant way. The industry will likely see significant cost-savings thanks to improved workflow.”

Designed to improve processes, outcomes, and efficiency, the Awrel solution provides functionality to intuitively create custom platforms for individuals and groups to exchange and store information, images, and documents. A dentist, for example, can benefit from specialty consultation directly at the point of patient care or from real-time interaction with a technician creating an implant or cosmetic prosthesis at a dental lab.

As electronic transmission of data has evolved in healthcare, the federal government is scrutinizing increasing numbers of clinicians and healthcare entities, with some paying large fines for security breaches and some even facing imprisonment. “Hospitals, clinics, and physician practices have traditionally been under scrutiny while the dental industry has essentially flown under the radar, at least until recently,” said Awrel Founder and CEO Arnold Rosen, DDS, MBA.

To date, a New York academic medical center has paid the highest fine, $4.8 million in 2014 after the records of 6,800 people were accessible on Google. Rosen cites an April 2015 comment from Adam Greene, a privacy attorney and former Department of Health and Human Services regulator, who said, “it wouldn't be surprising for us to start seeing some really surprising settlement agreements [later this year] with respect to potential record-breaking [financial penalties].”

“Many are frustrated with the time, hassle, and delays of using HIPAA-compliant email systems,” Culp explains. “They want information readily available where and when they need it – during appointments, in the lab, away from the office, etc. With Awrel, clinicians eliminate worries of breaching security and also improve workflow, thereby enhancing opportunities to deliver quality services and products in a timely, cost-effective manner.”

Awrel offers a free 30-day trial of its application for the desktop at https://app.awrel.com or the mobile device from Apple and Google. Pricing is scaled based upon number of users and volume of storage, with custom pricing available for resellers and/or integration into existing systems.

About Awrel

In May 2016, Boston-based Awrel introduced dentistry’s first low-cost, easy-to-use application for 100% HIPAA-compliant texting and collaboration with functionality for image and document exchange, individual and group messaging, collaborative workflow, and cloud-based data archiving. The solution can be used by anyone seeking to ensure HIPAA compliance when texting including dentists and dental labs sharing digital information, Web companies, and practice management companies integrating chats for dentists and patients, dental device reps working with dentists and dental labs, and dental companies and academic environments seeking solutions for secure and private texting. The company offers a stand-alone mobile and desktop application for the dental industry as its initial solution and will roll-out of expanded capabilities and/or apps for use in other clinical environments. Built with interoperability for today’s Internet of Things environment, Awrel will soon offer plug-and-play integration into practice management and other enterprise systems.

Ever since its global market debut thirty years ago, Geistlich Bio-Oss®,a bone substitute utilized in periodontal and oral surgery procedures to regenerate lost bone in the oral cavity, has demonstrated clinical efficacy, long-term implant survival rates and predictability, all backed by scientific publications and investigations. “Geistlich Bio-Oss® 1 g meets the need for an extended product range! Additional flexibility in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) therapy for excellent long-term outcomes and stable esthetic results!” said Prof. Matteo Chiapasco from Milan Italy. The addition of Geistlich Bio-Oss® 1 g provides a convenient new size that bridges the gap between small and large procedures.

Geistlich Bio-Oss®, derived from bovine bone, preserves the native crystalline structure, which is highly similar to human bone, through unique, patented technology. This manufacturing process ensures the vital building blocks are present to promote the initial biologic processes of cell adhesion and proliferation. The slow resorbing nature of Geistlich Bio-Oss® is a desirable characteristic providing long-term volume preservation. As the body recognizes and accepts these native crystalline structures, the particles become fully integrated into living bone.

Healing Properties of ProRoot MTA Now Available as a Sealer

Posted on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Tulsa, Okla. (May 17, 2016) – Dentsply Sirona Endodontics today announced the addition of another innovative product to its ProRoot® MTA family of endodontic advanced treatment options. ProRoot® ES endodontic root canal sealer is made from an enhanced formula of its counterpart ProRoot MTA root repair material, which has been trusted in over four million canals. Now, the same healing properties that clinicians have come to know and trust from ProRoot MTA are available in a biocompatible sealer.

The unique formula of ProRoot ES provides a natural seal by sealing the root canal biologically. It is bioinductive for cementum and thereby supports tissue regeneration. The sealer has proven to be dimensionally stable and stimulates a hard-tissue covering over the apical foramen, while enabling the repair of the periradicular tissues.

In addition to providing a biological seal to prevent bacterial micro leakage, ProRoot ES comes with a number of other benefits that make it the sealer of choice to help you achieve efficient and predictable results. ProRoot ES uses a polymer-enhanced, powder and gel system that is not cytotoxic in a freshly mixed or hardened state. As such, it does not stimulate an inflammatory or root resorptive response.

The water-based, easy-to-mix formula creates a smooth stringy consistency for excellent handling, and also provides a flexible working time, setting quickly, even in the presence of moisture. The sealer initially sets within 65 minutes providing sufficient working time. Esthetically, the tooth-colored advanced sealer is highly radiopaque, offering a greater visual for placement of the sealer.

“As promised, we’ve delivered yet another outstanding product that is easy to use, safe for patients with latex allergies, and a notch above other sealers,” said Shane Coloney, brand development manager for Dentsply Sirona.

“ProRoot ES is biocompatible and bioinductive that provides the same healing properties as its counterpart ProRoot MTA. We are proud that clinicians can confidently use this product line with predictable healing responses, which they have come to expect from our proven brand names. We continue to strive for better treatment options, ProRoot ES is a prime example of our endless commitment to supporting dentists through proven and scientifically-based products,” Coloney said.

ProRoot ES is currently available only in the U.S.

Aurum Joins the DSD Community

Posted on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

The Aurum Group® announced their partnership with Dr. Christian Coachman, the original mastermind behind the Digital Smile Design (DSD) concept, and DSD as an Official DSD Certified Laboratory.

Imagine, as a dentist, if you had the ability to visualize your patient's smile from the desired outcome forward instead of guessing what your final restoration will look like once placed. Now imagine, as a patient, knowing exactly what each type of possible treatment proposed will look like before it's completed.

The Digital Smile Design Concept (DSD) (www.digitalsmiledesign.com) assists in making this a reality by capturing the unique essence of the patient's existing smile through an intuitive and guided clinical approach and creating a custom smile design that is as individual as they are. Clinicians are able to show the patient a preview of the prosthetic result, while giving technicians all the necessary information to complete the restorations. The result – a more natural, emotional and artistic smile.

At the same time, DSD completes that smile more efficiently and precisely through innovative digital technology employed by clinician and laboratory alike. DSD:

  • Improves the Smile Design process and transforming the patient into a co-author of his/her own new smile.

  • Develops a Communication protocol that facilitates real and daily Interdisciplinary Dentistry.

  • Increases the perceived value of a dental treatment and consequently case acceptance through an Emotional Dentistry approach.

  • Integrates technology to generate efficient and predictable clinical procedures.

DSD is a proven, step-by-step methodology, having been used for almost a decade by top dental technicians and dentists in order to improve the quality of esthetic dental treatments. This concept has been taught to more than 25,000 dental professionals worldwide, is being applied daily as a state-of-the-art patient centric approach, and has been cited as a scientific concept in numerous peer-reviewed articles.

Contact your closest Aurum Group Dental Laboratory location or call 1-800-661-1169 (email to aurum@aurumgroup.com) for full details on the Digital Smile Design (DSD) concept today!

Millennium Dental Technologies Receives FDA Clearance for Tissue Regeneration

Posted on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

CERRITOS, Calif., May 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With periodontal disease evident in eighty-five percent of adults in the United States, Millennium Dental Technologies (MDT) is pleased to announce a first-of-its-kind 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for periodontal regeneration – true regeneration of the attachment apparatus (new cementum, new periodontal ligament, and new alveolar bone) on a previously diseased root surface when used specifically in the LANAP® protocol. FDA clearance for tissue regeneration by Millennium Dental Technologies (www.lanap.com) demonstrates for the first time ever that tissues lost to disease can be fully regenerated and return to functional health.

Regeneration is the process of returning full function to diseased areas via the regrowth of tissue and bone that has been damaged or lost. Although the terms are often used interchangeably, "repair" and "regeneration" are different health care results. The LANAP procedure creates true regeneration of tissues of the mouth that were damaged previously by disease using no biologics, growth factors, exogenous bone grafts, foreign membranes, scaffolding, scalpel, or stitches.

"Dentistry has become a driver of innovation in the field of regeneration and this is apparent with the FDA's first-of-its kind clearance of the LANAP protocol and device," said Robert H. Gregg II, DDS, co-founder of MDT, inventor of the LANAP protocol and co-developer of the PerioLase® MVP-7™ variable pulsed Nd:YAG laser. "The mouth is an unforgiving environment and the fact that we can stimulate regeneration with the full functionality will advance a broader scientific understanding of the body's regenerative capability."

The LANAP protocol is the result of three decades of research, development and clinical testing, including human histology. "Periodontal educators in academic institutions across the county now include the protocol in post-graduate periodontal residency training programs, as it is the only scientifically proven methodology that results in true periodontal regeneration including new gum tissue and bone growth and the regeneration of tissue and bone to save otherwise hopeless teeth," noted Dawn M. Gregg, DDS, MDT Director of Training. Using the PerioLase MVP-7, the only free-running, variable pulsed laser specifically designed to perform the LANAP protocol, doctors stimulate and activate oral stem cells, in particular fibroblasts, to form the necessary cellular components that turn into regenerated tissue. This 1064nm laser wavelength passes through healthy tissue and is selectively absorbed in bacteria and diseased tissues without harming other tissues.

The energy from the PerioLase MVP-7 laser, operating at near-infrared beyond the light spectrum visible to humans, penetrates 4-6mm beyond the tissue surface to kill bacteria thereby eliminating infection and inflammation. Once the mouth has been cleared of infectious agents, the laser interacts with hemoglobin to seal the gums with stable fibrin clotting, to achieve a clean, closed environment to create true regeneration. Multiple peer-reviewed, post procedure studies tracking results over time, show increased regeneration and continued improvement of oral health.

"The use of this highly calibrated laser to activate stem cells and growth factors validates years of testing and represents a significant improvement over traditional osseous surgery and conventional deep cleaning," noted Dr. Robert Gregg. "This new FDA indication for use changes the meaning of 'return to periodontal health' and reinforces our significant advances in dental care and beyond. Indeed, there are implications into medical regenerative treatments."

The LANAP, laser assisted regeneration (LAR) protocol, is currently used by more than 2,000 credentialed LANAP specialists across the United States to treat infectious, epidemic periodontal disease. Compared to classic osseous surgery or versions of scalpel-flap surgery for gum disease, patients treated with the LANAP protocol experience less pain, bleeding, swelling, sensitivity, gum loss, tooth loss and post-operative infections.

Andrew Sullivan, DDS, Chair of Periodontics at Rutgers, said, "As Chair of the Periodontics Department of Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, I was delighted to learn Millennium has received acknowledgement from the FDA that LANAP can achieve the "Gold Standard" in periodontal therapy – true periodontal regeneration. Rutgers periodontal residents are trained in the most advanced techniques, including the LANAP protocol."

The LANAP protocol, cleared by the FDA for periodontal regeneration is an important inclusion in patients' informed consent as a recommended treatment option for periodontitis. Patients wishing to learn more about LANAP should visit www.lanap.com.

S-Ray Announces Images of Full Arch Scans Available on Company Website

Posted on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Redmond, Wash. – May 16, 2016

S-Ray Incorporated is pleased to announce the release of new 3-D images on the company’s website.

The 3D images result from full arch scans completed using S-Ray’s ultrasound technology and its Latitude software. The work on the two images – one of an upper arch, the other of a lower arch – was completed in the company’s Redmond, Washington, R&D lab and represents major developments in the company’s product development.

Images produced in S-Ray’s lab using this system can be viewed on the company’s website – www.s-rayinc.com.  As further refinements are made, S-Ray will continue to update the page with new images.

“Our first public display of these images marks a milestone for S-Ray as a company and for the use of ultrasound as an accurate, convenient, and cost effective method for imaging of dental structures,” remarked S-Ray CEO Steve Baird. “This, combined with our high accuracy as validated by third parties, positions us to disrupt the dental imaging space very soon.”

The developments of the past several months have been led by Dr. Scott Parker, S-Ray’s executive vice-president, and a team of engineers and technicians. Together, they have worked to develop and refine a software system intended to fully automate the scanning process. This comprehensive process includes: activating the system, initiating the scan, collecting the data and then outputting the data as a 3D image file. S-Ray’s technology has now developed to the point where its software system can complete a fully integrated scan of a specific target at the push of a button – with the final result being a generated 3D image.
