New Photoactive Molecule Aimed At Faster Dental Treatment

Photoactive materials are used in modern dentistry, which harden when they are exposed to light. Usually, only thin layers of up to 2 mm can be hardened, due to the limited penetration depth of light. A new dental filling material allows for thicker layers and faster dental procedures. The Vienna University of Technology in collaboration with Ivoclar Vivadent have now developed a new generation of photoactive materials based on the element Germanium, according to phys.org.
