Richmond, VA – More than 500 people showed up Saturday for free dental service at Virginia State University, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch. The second annual VSU Cares program, part of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation’s Missions of Mercy program, offered everything from consultations to cleanings to tooth extractions.

Nearly 500 volunteer dentists, dental hygienists and dental students participated in Saturday’s program.

The event was the 68th run by the dental association since it began its Missions of Mercy program in Wise County in 1999. It returns to Wise next month, where dentists expect to see patient number 50,000.
