Free Online CE: Gingival Levels in the Esthetic Zone

Posted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Available from Spear Digital Campus, a free online continuing education (CE) course, titled “Gingival Levels in the Esthetic Zone,” will teach attendees how to evaluate gingival levels as well as diagnose the etiology of gingival level discrepancies. Appropriate treatment options will also be discussed.

According to Spear, gingival levels are an important part of the esthetic picture and can be the key ingredient in some cases. While there is general consensus that centrals and canines should be level and the laterals must be coronal to that level, every restorative dentist knows that there is tremendous variability in these as long as the free gingival margins of the centrals are even with each other. This course illustrates evaluation of the gingival levels, diagnosis of the etiology, and appropriate treatment options.

Course learning objectives include:

  • Identify gingival level discrepancies and diagnose the etiology

  • Understand the threshold at which a discrepancy distracts from the final esthetic result

  • Recommend appropriate treatment options
