MADISON, Wis.—Attendees of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s (AACD) annual meeting, AACD 2013, will be inspired and empowered by Dr. Brène Brown, a general session speaker who was interviewed by Oprah about her new book, “Daring Greatly.”
Dr. Brown, published author and professor, was interviewed by Oprah for Super Soul Sunday, as a part of Oprah’s OWN Network. “Daring Greatly” addresses the concept of vulnerability—specifically, that vulnerability is the core of all emotions and feelings.
“The perception that vulnerability is weakness is the most widely accepted myth about vulnerability and the most dangerous,” Dr. Brown writes in her book. “When we spend our lives pushing away and protecting ourselves from feeling vulnerable or from being perceived as too emotional, we feel contempt when others are less capable or willing to mask feelings, suck it up, and soldier on.”
Dr. Brown is just one of several amazing educators who will be speaking at AACD 2013. Part of AACD’s mission is to “inspire, educate, and motivate” its attendees, so that they return to their dental practices with renewed perspectives on more than just their dental careers.
