Lithoz Announces Strategic Collaboration with Dr. Jens Tartsch, President of the ESCI, for 3D Printed Dental Ceramics Implants

Posted on Thursday, July 9, 2020

The demands of patients and dentists for metal-free dental implants are increasing due to possible health effects and a reduced tendency to inflammation. Ceramic is the material of choice in these cases concerning material properties and quality. They provide an exceptional combination of biocompatibility, long-term stability, and high mechanical performance and therefore work exceptionally well as implants. Lithoz’s ceramics have been optimized for medical use and Lithoz will soon be certified according to EN ISO 13485.

3D printed dental devices overcome the limitations of milled ceramics in terms of design freedom, with the process of their manufacture being particularly efficient due to low levels of material consumption and high productivity. Furthermore, since 3D printing does not require any tools, hard machining of hot isostatic pressed ceramic blanks is no longer necessary, saving costs related to tools and maintenance. 3D printing is already an established technology for numerous dental applications, and now 3D printing of ceramics is also being introduced to the field of ceramic dental implants.

Another application of LCM technology is bone augmentation using resorbable materials such as hydroxyl apatite or tricalcium phosphate. Interconnected pore network-based implants can be manufactured according to the patient’s bone status, therefore supporting dental implant ingrowth in a situation where there is insufficient bone availability in the jaw. The cooperation between Lithoz and Dr. Jens Tartsch will help identify new applications and partnerships to further develop the future of 3D printed ceramic implants in the dental market.

Join Dr. Tartsch (Zahnartz Kilchberg/Zurich, founder and president of the European Society for Ceramic Implantology) and Dr. Bomze (Lithoz) to find out more about these pioneering opportunities and outlooks in the webinar “3D-printed ceramic dental applications - Insights into state of the art and future developments” on 28th August, 2020 at 4pm. There will also be an opportunity to have your questions answered in a Q&A session.

Dr. Jens Tartsch is a well-known expert in ceramic implantology in Switzerland. These days, Dr. Tartsch works at his private dental clinic in Zurich, Switzerland. His main areas of focus are ceramic implant dentistry, the biomaterial and immunological aspects in dentistry, and material incompatibilities. He is an international educator, speaker, and author for the topic of ceramic implantology and immunology in dentistry. Dr. Tartsch is the founder and president of the European Society for Ceramic Implantology (ESCI) and is a member of Board of Directors of the Swiss Society for Anti Aging Medicine and Prevention.
