New State-of-the-Art Learning Facility in New York

The Restorative Dentistry Department at New York City College of Technology, CUNY, celebrated its new facility’s opening day this late August, as students embarked on their dental laboratory studies for the first time in a new state-of-the-art facility and modern laboratories, located in Brooklyn, NY. The Dental Laboratory Technology program, also known as the Department of Restorative Dentistry at NYCCT, is the largest in the nation and has always been on the cutting edge, yielding several industry leaders and decision makers within our profession. The program has been in existence since 1946 and was the first dental technology program to be accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) in 1954. The program was also first in the nation to integrate CAD/CAM technology and implantology into the curriculum as stand-alone courses in 2014 and 2016, respectively.

The Restorative Dentistry program provides a well-balanced study, including all phases of dental technology--fixed and removable prosthodontics, orthodontics and implants, CAD/CAM, dental anatomy and morphology, gnathology, material sciences and chemistry, legal and business aspects of dental laboratory operations, and general education courses that meet and exceed standards for accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Professor Daniel Alter MSc, MDT, CDT shares his joy by saying, “The new laboratories are equipped with modern equipment, creating a learning environment that aligns our students with today’s fabrication processes. The laboratories and lecture rooms are all equipped with HD projectors and sound systems, as well as completely integrated CAD/CAM systems, milling machines, and 3D printers, which will enhance our graduating students’ employability and elevate their earning potential.”
