Planmeca PlanScan™

An ultrafast scanner for open CAD/CAM

As more and more laboratories incorporate digital processes into their workflow, CAD/CAM scanning systems have become increasingly more affordable. They should, however, look to invest in a system that allows room for growth as technology continues to improve. Modular systems, such as the Planmeca PlanScan™ Digital Restorative System, provide laboratories with this flexibility.

The Planmeca PlanScan™ expands upon years of CAD/CAM experience and is the first scanner to use E4D’s patent-pending blue laser technology, which improves the scanner’s ability to capture fine details for exceptional quality data capture. Capturing every detail of the preparation allows technicians to predictably design and mill precise restorations. Together with Planmeca’s Romexis®, PlanCAD® design software, and the Planmeca PlanMill™ 40, the Planmeca PlanScan System offers dental laboratories the ultimate in flexibility and productivity.

Planmeca and E4D’s goal is to introduce feature-rich hardware and software that can be used every day. The end result is digital scanning and design software with the latest technology and hardware designed for the most efficient data capture.

Scanning System Improvements

Featuring the latest technological innovations, the Planmeca PlanScan Restorative System offers users a number of new features.

One such feature is virtual retraction, which allows the dentist to virtually trim the die for clear access, which in turn gives the laboratory technician visual confirmation that the margin has been placed and drawn correctly. Another is Blue Laser (Blaze™) Technology, which offers faster image capture, better reproduction, and outstanding accuracy.

While the original E4D Dentist system and current competitive systems incorporate moving parts, the Planmeca PlanScan Scanner features solid state technology and a single fan for efficient cooling, providing confidence in durability and long-term use.

Additionally, PlanScan is a laptop-based system that can be configured with scan-only or scan-and-design software, which gives laboratory technicians the ability to use the system anytime, anywhere. The PlanScan’s Thunderbolt Connection provides high-speed data transfer and the PlanScan scanner does not need to be disabled while designing—just unplug the scanner and move on to scan another case.

Improved Digital Workflow

The greatest enhancement to the PlanScan System is found in its powerful image management system, available via Planmeca’s Romexis. Romexis is a completely open image management system that integrates 2D and 3D images with virtually any system, allowing the dental professional to import and export image files.

Planmeca Romexis offers a user-friendly software package that requires minimal training. Images can viewed anywhere using the mobile applications. Studies and cases can be quickly shared between clinics, helping dentists improve treatment planning for specialized cases, such as implants, orthodontics, and endodontics. These features contribute to the accuracy of the restorations and the speed with which they can be created within the laboratory for enhanced performance. Laboratories will experience workflow benefits such as more accurate case input and shorter turnaround times. Restoration design work can start immediately without creation of a physical model.

A Robust Mill

The PlanScan System allows laboratory owners to use the newest and most popular materials with the Planmeca PlanMill 40. The PlanMill 40 uses Servo Motors for micron-level positioning, which results in precise and smoothly finished restorations.

Digital Revolution

Laboratories can strengthen professional ties with their dentist clients by offering digital services that include receiving the client’s Planmeca PlanScan scanner data directly via Planmeca's Romexis or the DDX-Open System, which allows clients to send from virtually any scanning system. They will be effectively helping dentists transition into digital impression-taking, while enabling them to enjoy the full range of indications and high quality results that come with professional dental technician expertise.
