KDF’s Cascom SE

High-frequency induction heating delivers an exceptionally rapid casting process

KDF’s newly developed Cascom SE casting machine features high-frequency induction heating for alloys, as well as vacuum and pressure casting, for a quick casting process, excellent castability, and consistent end results.

Cascom SE uses high-frequency induction heating to deliver an exceptionally rapid casting process of about 2 to 3 minutes, optimizing workflow efficiency and improving productivity in the laboratory. It is also capable of casting various types of alloys, including precious, semi-precious, and non-precious metals like Co-Cr that require extremely high casting temperatures. Cascom SE does not use a flame during the melting process and applies a vacuum during casting to prevent alloys from absorbing gas, thus minimizing porosity and creating extremely smooth surfaces. The inverting casting chamber completely avoids oxidation film and minimizes miscasts. In addition, the semi-automatic unit is user-friendly and very simple to operate.

Clean and Consistent Casting Results

Cascom SE is designed to cast all types of alloys (with the exception of titanium) for the fabrication of a variety of restorations, including inlays, crowns, implants, and even partial frameworks. One of Cascom SE’s most attractive characteristics is its ability to cleanly cast Co-Cr alloy at high temperature. Co-Cr metal is often used in the fabrication of restorative frameworks, however, it can be quite difficult to work with. This is because Cr-Co requires an extremely high melting temperature, and even a well-trained and highly experienced dental technician may encounter difficulties that lead to inconsistent final results.

Cascom SE provides an ideal solution for clean and consistent Co-Cr casting results. It allows users to inject Argon Gas during the melting process, which creates a very clean atmosphere in the muffle chamber. In addition, the Cascom SE's chamber inverting casting method completely prevents oxidation. Cascom SE high-frequency induction heating enables technicians to easily melt and cast Co-Cr metal without encountering obstacles that could lead to sub-par results, thus, providing consistent results and high quality casting.

Specifications

The Cascom SE is 22”W x 19”H x 19”D, weighs only 85 lbs, and is equipped with a vacuum pump inside of the unit. It can reach a maximum temperature of 3,000°F (1,650°C). The unit requires 220V and has an output frequency for induction heating of 30 to 50 kHz. Cascom SE requires at least 100 Psi of pressurized air. The vacuum offers a pressure of 0.35 MPa, which is considerably more powerful than the pressure seen in centrifugal casting (0.1 MPa). Cascom SE’s ability to maintain its internal pressure prevents shrinkage and enables extremely intricate casting results that would be unavailable from a less sophisticated casting machine.

Cascom SE’s utilizes water-cooling, as well as an optional Chiller, HPC-20. The casting ring ranges in size from Φ34 x 50H mm at the smallest to Φ90 x70H mm at the largest for full mouth cases. There are 2 types of crucibles, carbon for precious and semi-precious metals, and ceramic for non-precious metals. Cascom SE’s max melting capacity for precious alloys is 120 g (4.23 oz) and 60 g (2.12 oz) for non-precious alloys.
