An MDP Primer for Durable Bonding

Apolinar Madrigal, DDS, on DenMat’s Zirconia Prime

Apolinar Madrigal, DDS

I currently practice in both California and Mexico, and I am passionate about dentistry. This passion drives me to look for new methods and products that enhance esthetics and allow me to create longer-lasting restorations. When DenMat's Zirconia Prime first launched, I began using it for any procedure in which bonding zirconia was possible because I believe that bonding crowns is a better choice than cementing them. Primarily, I use Zirconia Prime for restorations in the posterior region of the mouth, where stronger materials are required to handle the forces of mastication.

1. Zirconia Prime is a multi-surface primer for zirconia, alumina, and metal restorations that enhances the bond strength between these indirect restorative materials and composite resin cements and resin-based bonding agents. 2. For maximum retention, sandblast the crown before applying 1 to 2 coats of Zirconia Prime to the entire bonding surface. 3. Treating a LumiZir® zirconia crown surface with Zirconia Prime and using a resin cement such as Infinity® demonstrates that proper clinical technique ensures long-term restorative success.

Does the formulation increase bond strength?

It has been well established through clinical trials that MDP increases the bond strength between zirconia and adhesives.

Why do you chose to bond over cementing?

A bonded restoration will always be stronger, better adapted, and last longer than a counterpart that is cemented.

What is the best feature of the product?

The MDP formulation because it produces a reliable bond, ensuring more stable and predictable restorations.
