Midwest® E Electric Handpiece System

Lightweight handpiece and attachments for power and control

DENTSPLY Professional introduces the Midwest® E Electric handpiece and attachments, a new system that integrates numerous capabilities required for both preparatory and endodontic procedures. Dentists are certain to appreciate the capabilities of the touch screen display, combined with the power output of the lightweight, compact motor and attachments designed to be ergonomic.

Unparalleled Power

The Midwest E’s power stems from its brushless motor technology and customizable mode settings, which offer users both high performance and a seamless workflow. With powerful torque up to 3.0 Ncm, the Midwest E can easily handle high-speed, low-speed, and endodontic procedures. Weighing in at approximately 59 g, the motor is among the lightest on the market and it is fully autoclavable, making infection control compliance easy and convenient.

Four user-defined presets are available for each preparatory and endodontic mode, along with preset gear ratios for common handpiece transmissions. Preparatory Setting Mode allows users to view and adjust speed, attachment gearing, light operation, and bur direction on one display. The Endodontic Setting Mode allows users to set the appropriate manufacturer-defined speed and torque setting for endodontic files. It also offers customizable torque stop response and torque limit settings. With its high-powered motor and extensive customization, the Midwest E enables clinicians to create a fully optimized workflow for their practice.

Maximum Control

The Midwest E is designed to be ergonomic, with ease of maneuverability in mind. Like its motor, its attachments are light in weight—about 73 g—and include contra angles with textured bodies designed to enable a more secure grip. Among the choice of attachments to meet procedural needs are geared attachments that leverage the motor’s capabilities to reach speeds up to 200,000 RPM, and high-speed attachments with triple water jets. Its advanced touch screen display enables the clinician to easily adjust speed and torque.

Optimized User Experience

To support visibility, the high-contrast LED display offers customizable contrast to create the best viewing experience for the individual practitioner. Further enhancing the user experience is a touch screen display, allowing the clinician to use onscreen menus to adjust operating parameters. There are also separate use-specific screens that display only the operating parameters necessary for either preparatory or endodontic procedures, making operating settings easy to view.

In addition, with its tabletop display and control unit, the Midwest E can be used in any operatory with available power and air. With the addition of an optional remote mounting kit, the display can be mounted within reach and sight of the dentist while the control unit can be mounted out of sight and out of the way.

Conclusion

The Midwest E electric handpiece system provides the balance of power and control necessary for the wide range of high-speed, low-speed, and endodontic procedures performed in the dental office. Its pre-set settings for endodontic and preparatory uses and its many customizable features enable users to set the operating parameters of the system to meet their needs for the specific task at hand.
