Ti-Max Z45L

Bringing handpiece design to a new level

The core philosophy driving NSK’s business is to offer high-quality products at the best value. This has remained intact for more than 80 years of business and has helped the company become the leading rotary instrument manufacturer globally. Industry-leading precision technology expertise, coupled with a highly advanced factory production facility in Kanuma, Japan, gives NSK the scope to produce fine-precision, high-performance products. These products have earned the company a strong global reputation for reliability, durability, consistency, and practicality among its handpiece-manufacturing competitors. The US headquarters, which opened in 2011 and is based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, is centrally located for easy distribution and after-market service.

New Features and Applications

NSK recently launched the world’s first 45° electric (contra-angle) dental handpiece, called Ti-Max Z45L. This engineering accomplishment provides effortless access to hard-to-reach molars that a standard contra-angle simply can’t match. The slim-form Ti-Max Z45L also offers excellent visibility and operability, creating more space between adjacent teeth and the handpiece body. Ti-Max Z45L boasts the world’s first two-way spray function (water jet or mist spray), making it suitable for a wide range of clinical procedures. The handpiece is also versatile, handling a wide range of burs from a 20-mm standard bur to a longer 25-mm bur, depending on the requirement of the procedure. In addition, Ti-Max Z45L will fit any standard e-type connection used in the brushless electric micromotors sold by most manufacturers today.

Working in the molar region has always been a challenge with conventional rotary instruments because they limit visibility, making posterior access difficult. The Ti-Max Z45L can be used for procedures ranging from sectioning an impacted third molar to opening the root canal orifice of a second premolar. The 45° angled head allows easy access and improved visibility in the molar region, minimizing interference with the anterior teeth and adjacent teeth.

Practical Design

This breakthrough handpiece also incorporates several popular innovations featured in many of NSK’s best-selling handpieces. NSK’s Clean Head System, which automatically prevents the entry of oral fluids and other contaminants into the handpiece head, helps prevent infection transmission and prolongs the life of the bearings. The handpiece’s titanium body is 30% lighter than stainless steel, as well as more durable and corrosion resistant. The reduced weight and well-balanced shape give the Ti-Max Z45L a natural tactile feel and good usability over a full day of procedures. When used with a short motor, such as NSK’s NLX nano, the resulting weighted balance point is very similar to a high-speed air driven handpiece and coupler.

DURACOAT®, NSK’s latest surface enhancement technology, takes advantage of the non-allergic and biocompatible properties of titanium to further improve durability while creating a smooth, scratch-resistant surface that is comfortable to hold. Finally, the company’s unique head cap design helps to limit heat generation as well as to disperse it during treatment.
