NiteWhite ACP/DayWhite ACP

NiteWhite and DayWhite (Figure 1) are the only professional take-home whitening gels that incorporate Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), a patented technology developed by the American Dental Association. ACP creates a micro-coating over the original tooth surface, making teeth stronger and shinier.1-8 NiteWhite ACP and DayWhite ACP also contain potassium nitrate and fluoride for added sensitivity protection and anti-caries benefits.

Unique Features

In addition to containing ACP, NiteWhite ACP and DayWhite ACP are unique in what they offer the practitioner. The reactive nature of the chemicals in ACP requires the calcium and phosphate to be stored separately until they are applied to the tooth. Philips’ patented dual-barrel syringe keeps the ingredients separate until they are used, allowing for greater stability and no refrigeration. In addition, both products can be personalized with a customized sleeve to promote the practice at no additional cost.

The Science Behind ACP

ACP is unique among the calcium phosphate technologies because it forms faster intraorally. This allows ACP to deliver the most calcium and phosphate ions in the shortest period of time. Once formed, ACP converts rapidly to the tooth mineral apatite, addressing tooth demineralization, higher susceptibility to caries, and loss of luster.

At normal oral pH and temperature, the addition of ACP components to the salivary system can cause the hydrolysis of ACP into apatite within a few minutes—roughly 20,000 times faster than normal, physiologic formation of apatite.3 In addition to building a barrier of acid-resistant hydroxyapatite on the teeth, ACP also changes the equilibrium between mineralization and demineralization to favor remineralization, even in response to acid challenges.4 In addition to improving surface enamel, ACP:

  • desensitizes by plugging the dentinal tubules with calcium phosphate.5,6
  • improves appearance through remineralization and restoration of smoothness by filling superficial defects.7
  • reduces fade-back 6 months after treatment.8


NiteWhite ACP is recommended for patients who prefer the convenience of whitening while they sleep. Recommended for dark stains, gray shades, and tetracycline patients.

A clinical test comparing NiteWhite ACP users with non-ACP NiteWhite users concluded that 5 days after treatment the ACP users had half the reported thermal and tactile sensitivity of the nonusers. 5

DayWhite ACP is perfect for patients who prefer shorter wear times or who brux. It is recommended for light stains, as well as yellow and brown shades.

Patients can expect to see optimal results within 1 to 2 weeks.
