Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative

Create easy, lifelike restorations with this next-generation restorative material from 3M ESPE.

From 3M ESPE, manufacturer of the industry-leading Filtek™ line of restoratives—the brand dental professionals know and trust—comes Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative. Built upon the success and family history of proven Filtek restoratives, Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative (Figure 1) is easier than ever to use, with a simplified shading system and additional body shades for creating easy, one-shade restorations.

With Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative, dental professionals get easy handling for all opacities, including improved handling of translucent shades, which are now available in capsules. Improved polish retention and fluorescence make it incredibly easy to achieve lifelike results.

“We’re proud to take a product that has been loved and trusted by dental professionals for years, and incorporate their feedback to make it even better,” said Ryan Moynihan, US marketing manager, 3M ESPE. “Collaboration with our customers is an ongoing process that helps us develop and tailor our products to better fit the needs of clinicians.”

As the first and only composite system to incorporate true, clinically proven nanotechnology, the Filtek Supreme line has gained a strong following over the past 6 years for its ability to provide excellent polish retention while maintaining the strength and wear properties of a modern hybrid.

Improved Handling; Simple to Use

With the improved Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative, it is simple to achieve beautiful, lifelike results by using only one shade. New, bold labeling on the packaging also attributes to faster selection of shades, and an expanded number of shades provide dentists with more single-shade solutions. Current Filtek restorative users are familiar with the confidence of handling that this brand inspires. That comfort is taken to the next level as Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative offers even easier handling—especially with translucent shades, which are also now available in capsules.

Versatile Technique

Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative is proven to create beautiful restorations using either a single-, dual-, or multi-laying technique. Thisone restorative can be used for any anterior or posterior indication. The properties of Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative allow dental professionals to provide treatment for a purely functional restoration, or a more challenging artistic case (Figure 2). For example, Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative can be used to achieve the ideal posterior restoration using a dual-shade technique. First, select the shade using the VITAPAN™ classical shade guide, and the Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Shade Selector Wheel. Next, prepare the tooth and isolate, and apply a thin layer of a liner/base, such as 3M™ ESPE™ Vitrebond™ or Vitrebond™ Plus, to dentin surfaces if desired, followed by light cure, such as with the 3M™ ESPE™ Elipar™ S10 LED Curing Light. Using an adhesive, such as Adper™ Easy Bond Self-Etch Adhesive, follow the specific instructions for use.

To place the composite for a proximal box, place the chosen body or dentin shade of Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative in a 1-mm increment in the proximal box and on the floor of the cavity, then light-cure for the recommended time. To place composite for a dentin replacement, continue placing the chosen body or dentin shade of Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative in increments to the dentoenamel junction. Use the remaining coronal tooth structure as a guide for placement and adaptation, followed by a light-cure.

For an enamel replacement, place the chosen enamel or translucent shade of Filtek Supreme Ultra restorative in increments, and use the remaining coronal tooth structure as a guide for placement and adaptation. Make sure to overfill slightly, then light-cure. For the body, enamel, and translucent shades, an increment of 2 mm is recommended with a 20-second cure time, while dentin, A6B, and B5B should be placed at an increment of 1.5 mm with a 40-second cure.

For finishing and polishing of the final restoration, finish the occlusal surface using an appropriate finishing instrument. Finish the interproximal surfaces with discs and strips, such as 3M™ ESPE™ Sof-Lex™ Extra Thin Discs and Sof-Lex™ Strips. Finally, check the lateral and centric occlusion and adjust as necessary.
