Digital Dentures Head to Atlanta

The IDT International Digital Denture Symposium will return to the East Coast in 2019. The symposium, which sold out this past fall in Phoenix, Arizona, and last year in Baltimore, Maryland, will be held next year in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 27-28.

The Atlanta Marriott Marquis, located in the Peachtree Center of downtown Atlanta, will be the site of two days of collaborative education about the burgeoning field of digital dentures. It is just steps from the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart and the MARTA public transportation system, with easy access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The meeting space will accommodate more attendees and exhibitors than the symposium has ever had.

"A meeting like this really brings the opportunity for dentists and technicians to come together and really understand the latest advancements not only in scanning, printing, milling, and design but also materials," said Beth Collington, Senior Manager Digital Materials for Henry Schein's Global Prosthetic Solutions.

The 2018 symposium had 630 attendeesapproximately half dentists and half laboratory professionalsfrom 45 states and 12 countries. There were 43 speakers, 29 exhibitors, and 14 CE credits available. The show's platinum supporters were the AEGIS Dental Network, AvaDent Digital Dental Solutions, and Dentsply Sirona.

"This show has been fantastic," said Charles McClemens, CDT, TE. "I have loved every bit of it. Digital dentures are here to stay."

The denture market has been forecast to exceed $3.6 billion by 2019, but industry experts have estimated that less than 1% of dentures are fabricated digitally. A goal of the symposium is to help laboratories and dentists capitalize on that enormous growth potential.

"It's really the first jaunt into the evolution of improving dentures," said Chris Waldrop, CDT. "The manufacturing process has been very laborious for a long time, which makes it harder for businesses to scale. What digital does is allow for greater collaboration, and it also allows for consistency of quality in products."
