Implant Placement: A Surgical and Prosthetic Overview with Implant Placement and Bone Grafting on Cadavers

Day One of the course will include didactic lectures on diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical techniques for implant placement, and advanced techniques with bone grafting and peri-implant tissue management. Dentists seeking an overview of implant treatment are welcome to attend this day of the course alone, or in concert with the following hands-on sessions.

Day Two of the course will consist of hands-on instruction of surgical and prosthetic training, which will take place in TUSDM's state-of-the-art Simulation Clinic. Participants will be walked through the various steps necessary in order to prepare for and execute the placement of an implant, and will have the opportunity to ask questions of both surgical and prosthodontic specialists. This session is an excellent introduction to hands-on implant placement, and is also a helpful review for individuals who have placed implants in the past.

Day Three of the course will focus on a wide variety of implant and implant-related surgeries, including flap design, socket preservation, sinus lifts and ridge augmentation surgeries performed on cadavers. Participants will have an opportunity to practice these procedures on cadavers, with hands on demonstration and assistance by experienced surgical faculty.

MARIA B. PAPAGEORGE, DMD, MS, is Professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is also Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs and Chair of the Department of Dentistry at Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Papageorge is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Academy of Dental Science.
