AEGIS Communications, the leading oral health care publishing and media company headquartered in Newtown, Pennsylvania, has announced that Dr. Markus Blatz will begin serving as Editor-in-Chief of Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, effective with the May 2021 issue.
Prof. Dr. med. dent. Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD, is currently Professor of Restorative Dentistry, Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Science, and Assistant Dean for Digital Innovation and Professional Development at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also founded the Penn Dental Medicine CAD/CAM Ceramic Center. In addition, he is board certified by the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials, co-founder and immediate past President of the International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry, a founding member of the European Academy of Digital Dentistry, and a member of numerous other professional organizations. A graduate of Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, Blatz was awarded additional Doctorate Degrees, a Postgraduate Certificate in Prosthodontics, and a Professorship from the same University.
For more than 40 years, Compendium has been the established leader in globally recognized continuing education. Peer–reviewed and MEDLINE indexed, Compendium delivers authoritative articles on new techniques, research, and critical issues in oral health. Founded by the late Dr. D. Walter Cohen, Compendium was the first university-affiliated publication to provide journal-based continuing education.
“Compendium has always held a unique and steadfast place in the ever-evolving dental media world,” says Blatz. “It provides highly relevant educational content for the practicing dentist that combines state-of-the-art clinical excellence with scientific rigor through a deep association with one of the world’s premier educational institutions. Continuing on the path established by our former Dean Cohen and further developed by Dr. Rose, while leading the journal into the future, is not just an incredible honor, but a responsibility that I will meet with great enthusiasm. I am convinced that, during these times of information overflow, Compendium with its unique standing will become an even more important and sought-after resource for the dental profession.”
“At Compendium, education and credibility have always been the priority,” says Daniel Perkins, Chairman & Founder of AEGIS Communications. “Throughout its history, the journal has maintained a tradition of excellence as a trusted resource for practitioners. We are excited that Dr. Blatz has agreed to lead Compendium into its next phase, as just its third EIC in 42 years.”
Dr. Blatz is following Louis F. Rose, DDS, MD, who has served as an exemplary editor-in-chief of Compendium since 2008 and is now the journal’s Editor Emeritus.
