FEATURED CONTENT

CE 1: Dynamic Navigation for Surgical Implant Placement: Overview of Technology, Key Concepts, and a Case Report
George A. Mandelaris, DDS, MS; Luigi V. Stefanelli, DDS, PhD; and Bradley S. DeGroot, DDS, MS
In the first CE, the emerging advancement of dynamic navigation in CBCT-guided surgery is explored as a method to improve the accuracy of implant placement. This article also discusses the technology and workflow of dynamic navigation and its application for guided implant placement. Additionally, it presents a case that used this technology. Many factors contribute to implant success, with 3D implant positioning emerging as perhaps the most critical. Dynamic navigation is a promising advance in CBCT-guided surgery to help improve placement accuracy.

CE 2: Defining Paradigms for Assessment of Implant Receptor Sites: The Use of CT/CBCT and Interactive Virtual Treatment Planning for Congenitally Missing Lateral Incisors
Scott D. Ganz, DMD
The second CE article presents another example of how technology encompassing CBCT and interactive software applications has progressed and evolved into a necessary tool for diagnosis, treatment planning, and delivery of dental implant and associated restorative and surgical procedures. This article demonstrates how CBCT combined with interactive virtual treatment-planning software applications can empower clinicians with enhanced diagnostic capabilities for implant receptor-site assessment, generating new paradigms to replace older methods of presurgical planning for dental implant reconstruction. The evolution of virtual treatment-planning software applications empowers clinicians with enhanced diagnostic capabilities for both the surgical and restorative phases of implant reconstruction.
