Build on Your Strengths for Greater Success

Focus on what you do well and delegate what others may do better

Executive Editor Daniel Alter, MSc, MDT, CDT | daniel.alter@broadcastmed.com

When managing a business such as a dental laboratory, it is essentially important to know the elements within the business that are your strengths and delegate tasks that you may not be good at or do not enjoy doing. In other words, identify what you can execute at the highest level and also enjoy doing, and for those things that perhaps you are just not as passionate about or don't do as well, find someone within the laboratory—or hire someone—who can execute at the highest level of excellence, and delegate those tasks or functions to them. Delegating allows you to focus on your strengths and make the most of your time and abilities; in turn, that can lead to greater productivity, efficiency, and success in your business. It can even have a multiplier effect, allowing you to scale your laboratory based on the strengths and passions of all involved.

Knowing your strengths involves recognizing what you are good at and what you enjoy doing. This can be achieved through self-reflection, feedback from others, and assessments. Once you have identified your strengths, you can use them to your advantage by delegating tasks that do not align with your strengths. This can include tasks that you are not skilled at, tasks that take up too much of your time, or tasks that you simply do not enjoy doing. So, if your strength resides in relationship building and sales, and perhaps administrative tasks are just not your thing, there are plenty of individuals who love that aspect of the business and would be more than happy to make them function as efficiently as possible for your dental laboratory.

Delegating tasks involves identifying the right person for the job, providing clear instructions and expectations, and allowing the person to take ownership, responsibility, and accountability for those tasks. This can be achieved through effective communication, training, and support. By delegating tasks, you can then free up your time to focus on your strengths, which can lead to greater success and an appreciably elevated satisfaction in your business and in your professional/personal life.

In addition to delegating tasks, developing and nurturing your strengths through continued learning and growth is important. This can involve seeking out training and development opportunities, networking with others in your field, seeking feedback from others, and simply becoming a better version of you. By continually developing your strengths, you can improve your performance, increase your value to your business, and achieve even greater successes.

Recognizing everyone's' strengths in business and delegating tasks you are not happy doing is essential to the success of your business. It allows you to focus on your strengths, make the most of your time and abilities, and achieve greater productivity, efficiency, and success in your business. By continually developing your strengths and delegating tasks, you can position yourself for long-term success, growth, and, ultimately, satisfaction in your business/professional career. So, what are your strengths and what are you passionate about?

It is my honor and pleasure to elevate and inspire with knowledge.
