Expanding Boundaries for Dentures

Symposium to cover newest digital capabilities for removables

As denture professionals continue to push the boundaries of digital removable prosthetics, CAD/CAM dentures become a more viable and realistic option for an increasing number of dentists, laboratories, and denturists. The percentage of National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL) members offering complete dentures as part of their services has increased from 51% in 2012 to 56% in 2016 to 63% in 2020, according to the NADL's annual Business Surveys. More limits are being stretched every day, which is why the theme for sixth annual IDT International Digital Denture Symposium on Friday, September 24, is "Expanding Boundaries."

The event will be held virtually from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with at least six and up to nine CE credits available, depending on which breakout sessions attendees select. Inside Dental Technology Editor-in-Chief Peter Pizzi, MDT, CDT, will serve as the host.

The keynote speakers will be Alexander Bendayan, DDS, CAGS, FICD, and Stephen F. Balshi, MBE. Bendayan, the ad Interim Chair for the Department of Restorative Sciences & Biomaterials at Boston University's Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, will open the symposium with "Take the Front Seat: Choices for Digital Denture Materials." Balshi, the President of CM Prosthetics Inc. and Director of Research for PI Dental Center at the Institute for Facial Esthetics, will kick off the afternoon portion of the day with "Full-Arch Hybrid Implant Prosthetics Driven by Digital Dentures."

Other presenters on the main stage will be Joseph J. Massa, DDS, with "The Neuromuscular Prosthesis Gone Digital"; M. Reed Cone, DMD, MS, CDT, with "Defending Digital Dentures: Contemporary Protocols for Esthetics and Functional Prosthetics"; Gary Severance, DDS, with "The Future of Dentistry: 3D Printing Strong and Highly Esthetic Materials"; and Andrew Johnson, DDS, MDS, CDT, with "Making Digital Dentures Make Sense: From Virtual to Reality."

Commercial supporters are AvaDent Digital Dental Solutions and Dentsply Sirona (platinum); Amann Girrbach, Carbon, exocad, and Zahn Dental (gold); and 3Shape, EnvisionTEC, Ivoclar Vivadent, NextDent by 3D Systems, Medentika, and VITA North America (silver).
