Roland DGA Compares e.max Press, CAD

Posted on Monday, October 6, 2014

Irvine, California – Roland DGA has announced the release of its new digital dentistry white paper, “e.max Press vs. e.max CAD – A Comparison.” The informative document, complete with detailed charts and images, includes in-depth comparative analysis of the e.max Press and e.max CAD restoration processes, providing expert insight and clinical data to help labs choose the best production method, materials, and equipment for this popular application. Lithium disilicate is one of the most prescribed materials for dental restorations. IPS e.max by Ivoclar is a common type of lithium disilicate and many dental laboratory technicians believe that wet grinding this material is the best way to produce e.max restorations.

Roland’s white paper, which can be downloaded for free at https://www.rolanddga.com/solutions/dental/whitepaper/, explains why wet milling is not the only production platform well suited for performing e.max dental restorations and why laboratories should consider milling wax and pressing e.max for greater versatility, increased precision, simplified workflow, and lower operational costs.

In addition to the white paper on e.max restoration, Roland has published a new, informative technology brief, “Advantages of Roland DWX Digital Dental Prosthesis Production.”  The tech brief includes an overview of digital dental milling, detailed information on the benefits of Roland’s revolutionary DWX-50 and DWX-4 series mills, analysis of the ROI that labs can expect to achieve using these advanced devices, customer testimonials, and more. To download the tech brief, click here.

“Roland is committed not only to developing innovative products that are helping to usher in a new era of digital dentistry, but also to providing useful data and that helps labs make better-informed purchasing decisions,” said Brian Brooks, Roland DGA’s dental solutions product manager.

Technicians Praise Jensen Glaze

Posted on Monday, October 20, 2014

North Haven, Conn. – Jensen Dental is experiencing what they are referring to as an InSync ‘Glaze Craze’ among their customers. A recent campaign focus on their InSync Glaze product revealed that laboratory technicians are excited over the ease of use and life-like results InSync Glaze is helping them achieve.

Jensen’s Sales and Marketing team recently conducted a multi-channel customer outreach program to answer questions, offer tips and ensure customers were achieving the beautiful results, simply and efficiently, that the InSync Glaze paste was designed to achieve. Here are some of the responses they received:

“Home run on this product. Awesome results with predictability and consistency. GREAT job!” - Jeff Singler, Singler Dental Lab

“InSync Glaze is easy to handle, and so is the stain. Other brands can puddle, especially if you put it on thick. With the InSync Stain & Glaze system, your crowns become life-like and colors are heightened – close to a natural tooth color!” - Dan Feidt, Harrison Dental Lab

“What I love about InSync Glaze is that I can use it straight from the jar. It fires smooth with no bubbles on the occlusal and is a great price! I highly recommend it!” - Michael DeSimone, Dental Ceramics Inc.

InSync Glaze is part of a stain & glaze system offering an efficient method for staining and glazing full contour, layered zirconia and layered titanium restorations. Visit www.precisodental.com/insync for more information.

Ivoclar Introduces IPS e.max Lab Finder

Posted on Monday, October 6, 2014

Amherst, NY - Ivoclar Vivadent has introduced its “IPS e.max Lab Finder,” a new resource available at www.ivoclarvivadent.com to help dentists locate one of the more than 6,000 laboratories in North America currently using the clinically proven IPS e.max all-ceramic system. Created in response to the overwhelming demand from dentists to easily identify laboratories that can fabricate IPS e.max crowns, inlays, onlays, thin veneers, abutments, and bridges, the “IPS e.max Lab Finder” enables dentists to work with laboratories already skilled in utilizing IPS e.max materials to ensure the best possible results for the patients.

From the www.ivoclarvivadent.com homepage, simply clicking on the “IPS e.max Lab Finder” icon brings dentists to a search page, where they can identify laboratories either by name or by location. Selecting “Search By Location” takes the dentist to a map of their geographic area, underneath which is a list of the closest IPS e.max laboratories within 10, 50, and 100 miles (or kilometers) from which to choose. Selecting “Search By Name” allows the dentist to choose the state and type in the name of their current laboratory to see if it utilizes IPS e.max.

Considering that the vast majority of cases today can be restored with IPS e.max—including single-unit posterior crowns—it behooves dentists to consult with their laboratory to see if they utilize IPS e.max and, if they don’t, to be able to easily identify a nearby laboratory that does. With the new “IPS e.max Lab Finder” tool, dentists can easily find the best dental laboratory to partner with to deliver great-looking and durable restorations for their patients.

ROE Dental Laboratory Earns Honor

Posted on Thursday, October 2, 2014

Garfield Heights, Ohio - The National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL) has announced that ROE Dental Laboratory in Garfield Heights, Ohio, is the most recent dental laboratory to receive DAMAS accreditation in North America.

The DAMAS (Dental Appliance Manufacturers Audit System) is an internationally recognized process on quality assurance and manufacturing practices specifically developed for commercial dental laboratories. Achieving DAMAS accreditation requires passing a third party audit inspection and takes considerable investment by a laboratory operation to implement the comprehensive standards and requirements of the system. Forward-thinking laboratories go through the process of implementation to improve their manufacturing operations as well as to ensure better documentation and case handling of dental patient cases prescribed by dentists.

Less than 1% of dental laboratories in North America have been recognized as DAMAS accredited. The process was established originally in the United Kingdom and now is in place in Europe, Asia, and Australia in addition to North America.

“For our organization and the many dentists and patients we service, we are pleased to have met the DAMAS and FDA standard of excellence, traceability, and continuous improvement for quality and manufacturing practices (“cGMP”). Our clients are assured that ROE is a compliant laboratory that adheres to a universal standard of management practices; that our entire supply chain is held to the same standard; and that all our restorations are produced under the highest dental industry standards throughout the entire manufacturing process,” said ROE President B.J. Kowalski.

The DAMAS process is administered through the National Association of Dental Laboratories, which is a trade association representing commercial dental laboratories. NADL is the unified voice for the dental laboratory industry, supporting the dental profession and serving the public interest by promoting high standards.

Straumann Expands Scan & Shape

Posted on Thursday, October 2, 2014

ANDOVER, Massachusetts – Straumann® has announced the portfolio expansion of its popular Scan & Shape Service for dental laboratories to include new CARES® Milled and Basic Fixed Bar Solutions. These bars offer ideal restorations for fully edentulous patients and provide treatment flexibility on implant level or abutment level restorations and individual customization.

The Straumann CARES Milled Bar offers a direct connection to implants and delivers a one-piece solution milled to your specifications. The Straumann CARES Basic Fixed Bar has a sandblasted surface to save time with no visible metal and can be wrapped in acrylic, allowing for reline if desired.  CARES Basic Fixed Bar is a cost efficient alternative to a ceramic veneered bridge and an ideal fixed solution for ongoing tissue management. These new offerings will allow dental laboratories to stay competitive in today’s market by providing innovative implant borne solutions through a broader spectrum of product and material solutions that optimize workflows and allow them to adapt to the speed of technology.

The Straumann® CARES® screw-retained bars and bridges (SRBB) portfolio featuring the original Straumann implant connection enable dental labs to offer Straumann quality precision and mechanical performance to their customers for reliable Straumann implant platform restorations – without the need of additional abutments and without any changes to current workflow.  Offering excellent flexibility, fit and accessibility options, Straumann’s SRBB portfolio provides a solution to help dental labs stay competitive in today’s fastest growing market segment.

Steve Sheehan, Vice President of Straumann’s Lab Division North America, commented: “According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, there are more than 30 million Americans that are missing all their teeth in one or both jaws.  Dental laboratories need to be able to restore these cases with the functionality, esthetics and long-term stability today’s patients demand. Scan & Shape gives every dental laboratory access to original CARES bar solutions.  We are very pleased to address our customers’ needs with new bar designs and additional fixed edentulous solutions – that will give labs the opportunity to provide economical, efficient and high quality solutions.”

The Scan & Shape Service is for dental laboratories that do not own a CAD/CAM system but want to facilitate design of original Straumann CARES restorations for their referring clinicians.  Technicians submit a wax-up abutment or traditional stone model to the Arlington, TX facility where CDTs scan the information and send the digital design file back to the laboratory for approval prior to milling.  Scan & Shape expanded earlier in 2014 to include an Online Service for ordering, editing, and file sharing for Customized Abutments. SRBB will be added to the Online Service at a later date.
